| PLEASE help!! Straszny is not doing well. Long story short, he managed to find some medicine that was in a bag on mine that the active ingredient was mesalamine (a 5-aminosalicylic acid). The medicine was suppositories, and he chewed up 3 of them, 500mg each. He didn't consume all of this, I found bits and chunks on the floor. This was last night. I also found vomit on the bed, and he acted just fine besides that. I gave him some lunch meat(he doesn't normally get human food) and he at, drank, and went to the bathroom normally. I got home today after work, school, and a meeting. I saw that he had had a bowel movement but had not peed during the day(on his pee pad, anyway). I took him outside, and he did pee then. I quickly came to realize that he was not acting normally, and that he was sick. He wouldn't take food from me until I got a can of canned beef(more human food) and he ate some of it. He also drank some water. In the midst of this, I had called the vet, and was going to give it an hour to see how he was doing. About an hour later a friend stopped by for 5 minutes or so, and Straszny acted just fine. Tail wagging, running around, the whole bit. I thought he was back to normal. Then, he stopped moving around so much a little while later, and I could tell he wasn't comfortable. His abdomen was now obviously bothering him, he was waddling around a little. I think it may be a little swollen!! He has peed in his bed, and on mine, which he has NEVER done. I don't now if he is losing bladder control, or if he is just ill. He didn't even move from his bed when he peed in it. Also, his urine is CLEAR. I don't understand this. Also, abnormal. It does not smell like urine, either. A little bit before he peed on my bed, I brought him a drink of water. I think that this went right through him... but he is still eating and drinking. I don't know what to do. I will take him to the vet if need be, but honestly, they can;t pump his stomach or anything, it has been 24 hours since he consumed the medicine! I am so scared. I lost a dachshund to parvo a little over a year ago, and it was heartbreaking. I watched her pass on. Convulsions, seizures, vomiting, so on. I don;t know if I can go through that again( we were waiting on the vet to arrive). Does ANY of this sound familiar to ANYONE!!??? Do you think that it could be a liver problem? He has been acting a little strange lately, but I find it hard to believe that this is not due to the medicine. Last edited by Joysie; 09-13-2006 at 10:49 PM. |

| Call your local poison control, and ask what problems the medication may cause. Then take him to the vet ASAP! Even if they cannot pump his stomach if the pills poisoned him in some way it may very well have affected the function of his organs, and his liver and he may need treatment! A swollen liver, fluid retention, etc could all cause him pain that would cause the yelping!

| No emergency vet...but I did call the Poison Hotline, and they told me that mesalamine is in the same "family" as aspirin. I guess my only choice is to call the vet asap in the morning. They open at 8. Straszny is resting now, he looks ok, pretty peaceful. He urinated on my bed again, right in front of me though just a little bit ago...that is NOT him. At least he doesn't seem to be in pain as of yet... (by the way, thank you guys SO much for the comments, I am sitting here with him alone and in tears...so thank you) |

| I had posted a while back that my little Bella had eaten two advil that my daughters friend had left on the table. I called poison control and they said to give her 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide mixed with 1 tsp of milk to make her vomit immediately....I did that and went to the vet asap. They did some tests and it showed a red sore in her stomach. The vet gave her 2 differant meds for me to give her for a few days and thank GOD she is ok now. Good luck hun and definately get to the vet asap.

| Dont wait for the vet to open - go there now and just tell them he needs to be seen now. The frequent urination in odd places could indicate the kidneys aren't functioning correctly. Good luck and let us know how he is.

| The large amounts of clear urine indicate renal (Kidney) failure. I hope your baby is going to be okay. Please keep us posted. |
