| question about my yorkies leg poping out of joint? I have noticed that my yorkies back leg pops out of the groove when shes walking. I took her to a vet while I was in california and he said it is common and that she needs to have surgery. When we got back to new jersey I took her to her reg. vet and he said yes she has a common case in small dogs where the joint pops out but that she did not need surgery. I am wondering if anyone else has this case with their yorkies. I don’t think it hurts her but she seems to not put to much pressure on it when she walks up stairs. thank you for listening. Lunas mom

| I think she'll let you know if she's in any pain - all we can do as pet owners is listen to the advice of the vets we trust and follow our instincts. I don't know how long you've been dealing with this particular vet, but I've been with my vet for only 6mths (since I got Oscar) and I take their word. There have been times where they've suggested treatment that I didn't think was necessary (and I was right) and I've followed my instincts. If you think your girl is in pain then discuss the surgery with your vet.

| I believe what you're referring to is called luxating patellas. They are graded on a scale of 1-4. Your Vet should be able to tell you the grade. That will define whether surgery is or isn't needed. My maltese just completed the recovery period from his 2nd knee. The first one was done in April and the second in June. I, too, am in New Jersey. If you would like to PM me I can tell you what Vet I use and what Orthopaedic Surgeon I was referred to. Hopefully, we are in the same area...... |

| I think I will keep a close eye on her, and see what happens. I feel I can trust our vet, we have been with him since she was a pup. Thank you for your input

| That makes sense to me............. In the meantime, perhaps you could ask your Vet about a glucosamine/chrondroitin supplement. Since the canine knee is almost identical in structure to the human knee and you said she favors it going up the stairs....I would assume it is painful. Just imagine your knee popping in and out of the socket........ouch! Good Luck.... |

| My yorkie has a similar problem and he does need surgery..The best advise I can give you is to get x-rays and get other vets' opinion, if you are confused on what those two already told you. best of luck |
