Simon isn't eating or pooping. My two year old Simon stopped eating on friday, although he is still drinking water. My other two year old yorkie, Nigel is eating fine, and they have been exposed to the same things. I took Simon to the Vet on Saturday morning and she said that he stomach was "tight". She gave him gas medicine and another medicine. He is still playful, but has thrown up bile (yellow stuff), still refuses to eat anything, still drinks and hasn't pooped. I took him on an extra long walk this evening to see if that would help, but so far nothing. Any suggestions as to how to make him eat or poop? The Vet did put her finger in him and said that his stool felt normal - not constipated.

Is it possible that he has swallowed something and has an obstruction? This might sound really odd, but why not try a nice warm compress on his tummy. If nothing else, it will probably make him feel better

Simon As long as Simon is drinking, peeing and playing, he is not in immediate danger. If necessary, give him some glucose or electrolyes in his water. With no solid food in his tummy, he is unlikely to poop, but if you feel he may have to, try matching him. (Wet the head of a paper match, and insert it slightly upward into his rectum; half an inch will do.) If he has anything in there, this will encourage the contractions of the intestine, helping him poop. If he does, he may feel better; you can tell from the consistency if that was part of the problem. Good luck!

That is very interesting. Is it the sulfer or just the stimulation? | |

You insert the non-sulfur end of a soft match from a book not a stick. Some people use it to train their puppy so they don't have to wait -never tried it myself. Ok, so what is this trick, you ask? First, get yourself a book of matches. They need to be the soft kind that you rip out of a book. Second, rip off a match. Third, this is where it gets weird; insert the NON-sulfur side, or the torn side, into your dog's rear end. DO NOT LIGHT THE MATCH! I think that goes without saying, but believe me, I have fielded that question before. Insert the match about halfway into the backside of your dog and let the rest hang out. Any further and it could go all the way inside and that would be bad news. Now wait. The match is going to be an irritating feeling for your dog. Your dog is going to want to get rid of that feeling. To get rid of it your dog will squat to try and push it out. In the process of pushing out the match your dog will make a bowel movement and voila! Mission accomplished. The only reason for using a match is because it is the right size and has a soft texture.

How is Simon doing? If he can't even be tempted with the "best" foods like boiled chicken then something is wrong. I would take him to the vet, if he is still not eating at all. Even if the vet finds nothing wrong he can give him a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection of Vitamin B to stimulate his appetite.

He pooped on Sunday! After feeding him boiled chicken as Lacys Mom suggested, he did poop. In his poop was hair and fur!! Gross I know but at least he went. It was really soft and I had to pull it out (Simon is SO loved). Now he is rubbing his butt on the floor. I called the Vet again this morning, and she said that the meds she gave me on Saturday should be enough and to just give it time. I do think I'll try the match trick. Thanks.
