Default Do dogs get leg cramps?

We had been swimming for most of the afternoon and Gus was having a ball. He is finally wanting to go in but only when I'm there. He will walk to the edge and bark for me to put him in. It's the cutest thing. Anyway, we got out and came inside to change. Gus was drying himself on my bed by walking back and forth. All of a sudden he started yelping very loudly. I looked down and he had his right back leg was up and his toes were curled upward. Kinda like we do after painting our toe nails and walk. I went to go pick him up

ops I clicked the submit botton an accident. Tbis crazy family has me running around here and I lost track of what I was doing,,,

I went to go pick him up and he cried out louder. I got so scared. My husband wraped him up and carried him down stars and he wasn't crying after that. I got his leg and handled it and he was fine. It was so strange. He's fine now but I just don't know what happened.

Monica, what a great question! Poor baby Gus, Hallie sends him kisses on his little leg.

You've totally got me wondering about this now. If you don't get any responses I'm going to call my vet in the morning and ask him (I'm the queen of questions for him). I can't imagine why they wouldn't be susceptable to them like we are and man do they hurt!

my vet was closed as well. I was ready to take him to the emergence but he seems to be doing fine now. It's the only thing I could think of, because I used to get some really ugly legs cramps especially when I was pregnant. He's fine now. I was thinking that it could maybe be a bee sting, but there is nothing on his legs that shows any signs of a bite or sting of any kind.

Well Gus seems to be just fine. I would sure like to know what happened. I keep checking every so often to see if there is anything different but there hasn't been. My vet was already gone for the day so I am going to call the first thing tomorrow. I would like to get all the info I can get! I hope it never happens again, but I would like to know what to do just incase it does.

Yes! I went in and talked to my vet today and he said absolutely just like humans do especially after vigorous activity! He also said it could be the knees if they have LP (like Simon).

He also said he was glad Gus was feeling better he is such a nice man!

Lolas leg has cramped up on two occasions, both times she snapped out of it rather quickly, but it sure is a scary feeling when they start yelping like that.....Im so glad your baby Gus is better!

really,,, thanks so much for asking. My vet is on vacation but I did ask the on call doctor but I did not understand a word he was saying. The nurse was no help either. So I'm hoping that it was just a cramp. He had a good night sleep and has been fine since. I will be taking Gus in just to make sure his knees are ok. But I will wait for his vet to come back. I just hope it doesn't happen any time soon or at least till his regular vet in back.

You vet sounds so nice! Thanks again!
