| Diariaha I need some advice. Taffy woke me up Friday morning crying inher crate. She had soilded on her bed pillow. She had diariaha and throne up. For the first part of the day when she belched she throw up a little. And she had the runs two more times. But she acted fine later in the day and night. Then this morning she had diaraha again all over her pillow. She had only had the runs just 2 times today. She has been drinking water and ate a little today. I gave her a teaspoon of cottage cheese and rice. I took her up to my mother-in-law Thursdsay night and had to take a few things out of Taffy's mouth. (My mother in law drops crumbs on the floor so I am wondering if Taffy found some thing she shouldn't of. Or do you think something else is wrong???? |

| Diarrhea is just a symptom that can be anything from a mild stomach upset to fatal parvo so no one can really tell you what caused it unless they run tests and find the diagnosis through confirmation or elimination. Deciding on whether you need to see a vet is just a judgment call. If the dog is drinking and acting fine and has no blood in their vomit or feces and it's not profuse in frequency I feel comfortable waiting and observing for 48 hours while doing the self help treatment below; however, if the dog is very young or very tiny I might only feel comfortable waiting 24 hours. Sounds like although her stool is not formed she really doesn't have diarrhea since it isn't very frequent. It's good that she is still drinking so you don't have to worry about dehydration. Electrolytes get thrown out of balance when they do have diarrhea so I give Pedialyte (infant electrolyte solution) to restore this imbalance. I buy the single serving bottles because it has to be discarded after 48 hours after opened. I wouldn't give cottage cheese as this can cause diarrhea, but the rice or oatmeal is good and add some boiled chicken and keep her on that for a few days. Also adding fiber like a teaspoon of canned pumpkin (without the spices) 3 times a day will help diarrhea or constipation. |
