| Good News for TJ - Bad News for Roxy What a day yesterday was. I took the kids (Roxy and TJ) to Vet for a check-up and to go over a few things. They both needed shots again so they weren't happy about that. The little piggies have growth so much! TJ is 6.2 lbs and Roxy is 4.9 lbs. I think they will be staying around those weights, which is good b/c they are getting heavy especially because I have to carry them both at one time (my arms are gonna look great for the summer though). Ok, so for the news... TJ is doing great, he hasn't had one of his episodes since November. I talked to Vet and I am going to continue weaning him off the Tylan powder. Right now he is taking it every 5th day. The Vet says that is really good, but that we will just have to see how things go. Meaning TJ may be off the Tylan very soon, or I may have to start him back up if he starts to get the mucus poop again. But so far so good, I have faith in my Little Piggy! Now for Roxy, I asked the Vet about her rear legs, b/c we have been noticing that when we pick her up it feels like her hips shift. The Vet confirmed that both rear legs have Luxating Patella. He feels that that are a Grade 2. He gave me a referral to a specialist. I am going to make an appt. in a couple of month with the specialist and see what he feels. The Vet seems to think that she will be ok, that the specialist may oppt. for surgery to correct the problem or he may say that she isn't that bad and that the quality of life she will have is very positive, it's just that her later years we may have to deal with arthritis. My husband and I both feel that we will do what ever is best for Roxy. If the specialist suggests that surgery will be beneficial than we will probably go that route. And if he feels we will monitor it for now than that is ok too. Next for Roxy, I talked to the Vet about the 'honking' she does when she gets excited. And he suspects collapsed trachea. He listened to her and said she sounds good, but just by me saying that when she gets excited she makes that honking noise and when I rub her throat she stops he feels it is collapsed trachea. But he again feels that it is mild and really does not recommend surgery. He says that the surgery is very expensive and invasive and that in a year or 5 or 10, another part could collapse. So, he feels we can control it, as long as she doesn't start to do the honk in a resting position. Then that means it is getting more serious. So, what a day for my baby. My husband and I were so down last night. But we are committed to doing WHATEVER it takes for Roxy (and TJ). So, I will be monitoring her very closely. I will keep you updated. AND please if anyone has any advice or opinions regarding these conditions that would be greatly appreciated! THANKS and GOD BLESS! |

| I only have experience with LP. My Maltese, Codie, had LP in his rear left leg. We had the surgery within the same month he was diagnosed and he is doing EXCELLENT! I highly recommend it. The quality of his life has greatly improved -- and he's a much happier dog now. Good luck with both of your little darlings! And please keep us updated.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had 3 other yorkies all with varying dgrees of collapsed trachea's 2 lived to almost 13 with no complications other than honking on excitement. My gracie tied at 6 1/2 from comlicatins of collapsed trachea. Her 's was sevre and contributing factors are we use to put her on a tie out with a collar and she would chase a soccer ball until she reached the end of the tie out. In hindsight I believe taht contributed to her problem. The only advice i have and you probably already know this is never put pressure on her neck via collar etc. and keep her weight down. being overweight contributes to both the trachea and the leg problems. Hopefully she will do fien and live a long healthy life.

| Thanks everyone for all your kind wishes. I have had my babies for a full year now. When I first got them, TJ got sick with constant mucus poop and then it was just mucus and vomitting. I was worried sick everyday. I took care of him and babied him and now his is finally better (for now and I hope forever), but during that time, I always thought Roxy was the strong one with no problems. And now my poor baby girl has 2 major issues. I just want her to have the best life possible. My husband and I love them both soooooooooooo much. I will keep you posted. No, we do not have health insurance for them, but I am not worried about money, we will come up it somehow. Thanks again, and more stories and experiences if you have them please! |
