| Skelf in Chico's Throat???? Chico always plays with stick in the park, the bigger the better. Although we try to discourage this, he is not interested in his toys when he can carry around a stick instead. Yesterday he was being a bit clingy and quiet (normally very lively!) and didn't seem to want to pick anything up in his mouth. We though he may have hurt his mouth while playing in the park the previous day. By lunch time he was evn more mopey and wouldn't eat, so we took him to the vet who said is temperature was slightly high and she though he'd sprained his jaw. He was give and injection of antibiotic and a painkiller. He perked up a bit and ran about playing and ate his dinner, but afterwards was really mopey again. He wouldn't repond to us and just curled up in a ball. We fed him water through the night but he seemed to be in pain swallowing it. In the morning he wouldn't go for a walk or eat so we tokk him back to the vet. A different vet examined him and after feeling his throat thinks he may have a skelf in his throat. He has been kept in and is currently getting sedated so they can look in his mouth properly. Has anyone else ever heard of this? Or similar symtoms?? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Oh poor baby I hope he's gets better fast. Cali chews on the wood on my boxspring mattress and I am always worried she will get splinters in her throat or mouth. But she gets under the bed and I can't get her. Keep us posted,

| Hopefully better... There was a splinter in the back of his throat, which the vet has now removed. He was very drowsy and they are keeping him in till the end of the day when I can collect him. Apparently he is up and about now!! Thank goodness. Will have to keep him away from sticks in the future. Any ideas?? He ignores his own toys if there is the chance to play with a stick! |

| Oh I'm so glad they found it. Poor baby, I hope he feels better soon. Maybe try a toy stick, they sell them at PetsMart, they look real but there not.

| Poor baby. Glad to hear he's on the mend. We have flower beds surrounding our back yard and we keep cedar bark in the beds as a covering. Sissy has taken to trying to eat pieces of the bark when she goes outside to do her business. A recent stool sample showed trace amounts of Giardia parasite, which the vet says can be contracted from standing water outside. Besides the obvious splinter risk, I'm wondering if this isn't where the parasite came from since her previous stool was clean........
