| puppy has been sick A friend of mine has a maltipoo, she got him at a pet store. She has had the puppy for a couple of weeks now and he will be 4 months old tomorrow. The past week or so, the puppy has been having mucous and blood in his poop, he is still very playful and it does not seem to be showing signs of being sick except for his poop. The vet said it was a bacterial infection and gave him antibiotics which does not seem to be working. The place where she had got him contacted the breeder and they gave him some stronger antibiotics. They say it will take about a week before she will notice a difference in him but she is still very concerned and they did not give her specifics on what the bacteria was. Can anyone tell me if they experienced this before and could there be something else going on besides bacterial infection, any help would be great. Thanks |

| That sounds like colitis. Talk to the vet and ask them for something for it. My Gracie is on Tylan long term for reoccuring bouts of it. She eats I/D food with a 1/4 tsp of metamucil three times a day and seems to be controling it for now

| Did she take a stool sample with her to the vet? It could be whipworms, coccidia, giardia, colitis (increase fiber in diet) and the list goes on and on --- Hope she gets well soon, puppy training is hard enough without loose stools. My vet let me give my adult Yorkie Immodium AD (1/2 tablet - she was 4 pounds), but it wasn't due to a bacterial infection, just a Cheese Nip. She might ask her vet about this or Pepto Bismal. |

| I am sorry to hear that this baby is still sick. There is one thing I can say with some certainty and that is that the pet shop most likely did NOT contact the BREEDER. They do not deal with breeders but with BROKERS. They have NO health history on the dogs they broker across the country so your friend really is starting from scratch. I hope I am wrong about the origin of the puppy. The name of the breeder should be on the paperwork from the store. If so, your friend might try to contact the breeder himself. BTW, does the name Hunte corp appear on the paperwork? Just curious.. |

| I will try to answer all the questions asked in one post instead of posting more than one. She did bring a stool sample and that is why they said it was bacterial, the next step would be blood work if this does not work in a week, does it take that long for an infection to clear up? She also said that it was the breeder who brought her the other antibiotics to give the dog. The petstore she got him from is very small they usually sell one breed of dogs at a time so there is not a big over flow of puppies there. I go there to buy some clothing from Nelly, it is owned by a very nice couple and they usually sell dogs that are from people that they know, well that is what I was told anyway when I asked questions on their puppies and the puppies are in a big pen on the floor instead of little kennels like at the other pet store that is in our community. |

| The Hunte Corp Whispers Mom......My Gracie came from a petstore....( should never have gone in I was grieving and she was to cute) anywho she was from the Hunte Corporation Horriable people pretending to care. I would encourage anyone who has gotten a dog from a petstore to check if they came from the Hunte corporation or I Love My Puppy Honeydew Farms ( the are the same people)........Also the breeder info is on the paperwork I called 411 and got the breeders # and she sent me pics of Gracie's parents and has called several times in the year since we have contacted her to check on my girl as she has been sick quite a bit.........
