| Itchy/bloody Head =( Muffin is 4 and a half months old and he has really dry skin. A groomer suggested that I used this formula called "Dream Coat" http://www.spoiled-rotten.ca/halo_dreamCoat.jpg but I haven't tried it yet because I'm concerned about the top of his head. He has been scratching alot and I have noticed there is dried up blood all over. What kind of cream should I use on his head for now before I bring him to the vet to prevent his cut to worsen? I'm planning on going to the vet on Friday because I have no time tomorrow. Here I have attached a picture of what it looks like... It looks painful =( What should i do? | 1. Glad you are going to the vet (make sure it is not mites or other little critters) 2. What are you feeding him - this impacts their coat a great deal 3. I am not sure what is in Dream Coat but amino acids will help - I give mine Salmon oil in their food. 4. I would use some bag balm on top of his head - it will be messy but it soothes the skin and has an antiseptic in it.

| Bag Balm is a great idea. Also try a hydrcortzone cream to help stop the itching. Let us know what your vet says. |

| puppy A 4 month old puppy should not have dry skin. Have the vet do a skin scrapping to see if it is a bacterial infection, etc...use a quality puppy food, exercise and sunshine. I would get Chlorhexaderm shampoo right now and clear up the skin..then be careful with oils..they clog the pores and make more dry skin. A four month odl should not need alot of additives to maintain healthy skin..have you vet do a "look/see"..good luck |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I've heard fleas can do that kind of damage....and also mites ...MITES are very hard to diagnosis and a skin scraping is needed..... Poor baby - no puppy should itch that bad is right...he must be miserable. GOOD LUCK at the vet !! |

| It definitely looks like there's more going on then dry skin. You can buy bag balm at Walmart with the hand creams. It was first developed to use on cow utters to keep them supple. I personally would take him straight to the vet before putting anything on it so it doesn't interfere with any tests they may want to do. |
