| Help!! Kahlua woke up Saturday blowing though his nose several times and each time had liquid spraying. This is still continuing just not as constant. He also is sneezing. I called the vet Saturday to see if there was something I could give him or if I needed to bring him in. He told me it sounded like allergies and to give him 1/2 teaspoon of children's benadryl every 6-8 hours through the weekend and if it does not clear by monday bring him in to check for infection. Well its not gone, but I'm pretty sure its allergies and not a sickness because he has no runny nose (something actually leaking out). Also, he can't be that sick because his playing and eating habits have not changed at all. He is stil as energetic as ever. At least twice this weekend he has however sounded like a cat coughing a hairball up, and sometimes makes that same sound and you can tell its coming from his nose. ????? Has this ever happened to anyone. I'm trying to avoid a vet by all means, but I hate having my baby sick. I decided to give it a few extra days because I was only able to give him one dose on Saturday. Any home remedies or information on similar experiences??

| I wish I could offer some advice. But, I am far from an expert when it comes to medical questions concerning our little Yorkies. Give me a human and I can diagnose with the best of them! LOL Yet, given the fact that he is playing and eating normal, I wouldn't worry about it. But I would certainly keep an eye on him all the same. |

| thank you for your opinion!! thats how i feel as well, since he is playing normal and eating normal I feel its nothing serious. It has to be allergies because of the blowing through nose and sneezing. Has anyone dealt with allergies with their yorkie themselves by just giving them children's benadryl?? How long until they cleared up??

| Sounds like he's really fine - could he have sniffed something up into his nose (like a piece of fuzz, grass, leaf, or whatever) that is driving him crazy? Carol Jean |

| I would take him to the vet. I had a Yorkie that came into rescue and the runny nose turned into a serious infection with green and yellow mucus coming out her nose. It took months to clear up. I would also be worried about "cat coughing a hairball up" sound as it could be an infection in his chest.

| Pancake has the same symptoms, but her nose was also running. I took her to the vet, and they told me because it was clear and not yellow or green I had nothing to worry about. But the coughing, sneezing and running seems like a problem to me. The vet also said my pup is too yound to have allergies. So I still don't know what's wrong with my pup |

| Similar sniffles Raja is having the same symptoms right now. I read online to give Benadryl, so I gave him a dose and it stopped his sneezing immediately, and the nose blowing lightened. Then I took him to the vet, just to be sure, and she prescribed some antibotics which have taken an entire week to take effect. I would have rather kept him on the benadryl, but don't want to mix the meds. Plus, the antibotic will take care of any infection my baby may have. |

| Was he running a fever? Is that why the vet prescribed antibiotics?? |

| No fever, but the mucus wasn't clear (a little cloudy + clear).

| Well we determined that the hacking sound wasnt a cough, it was merely an attempt to push something throuh his nose. You could hear the congestion in his nose as he did it. We have kept him on the benadryl since and I was avoiding outside since the pollen is high right now, but today I took him out for fresh air to give that a try (holding him not letting him run around) and he sneezed five times in a row and then that was it. Since then nothing!!! I guess he just had sniffed something up and was attempting to get it out!!
