| Hope's leg is broken!! Hope got out by herself today when my husband was home letting a plumber in to work on our washing maching - he found her and she walked up the hill to our house ok, but when we got home (about 3 hours later) and took her out of her crate, she could not walk on her front left leg!! We took her to the emergency vet, and x-rays showed both bones in her leg were broken!! He is sedating her and immobilizing her now (he sent us home) and said it would take about 3 hours!!! I am a wreck!!! We have a call into our regular vet (who just retired!!!) to see who she would recommend for the surgery (not sure her replacement is our choice, but waiting to her from our retired vet)!!! Please keep good thoughts for her. Any of you folks who have gone through this, i am open to any help you can provide!!! Thanks! |

| I know exactly how you feel. My Lola broke her leg on Valentine's Day. It was scary and I was a wreck. She still has her cast on and the vet did a recheck and found that she is healing nicely and won't need surgery. I can assure you that my dog adjusted very well to her cast and still runs around like a wild child. I'm sorry about your puppy, but I know she will be fine. You are in my thoughts |

| Oh dear, I am so sorry!! I have had two different yorkies break legs, and it's really not fun at all. But the good thing is they usually heal really well, and it seems to be worse for you than for them! They are such great spirited little cuties, aren't they? Here's my thread about my Wosie with her broken leg in November. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...Wosie+hurt+leg The hardest thing was keeping a four month old immobile for three months. Not an easy task at all. I ended up getting her a front pack so I could carry her around all the time and had full use of my hands. I wish you all the best through your upcoming ordeal, and if there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to PM me. Good luck!

| Thanks for your words of encouragement! As for what happened, i guess something happened while she was out alone???? I broke a foot once and was able to walk home on it, but soon it hurt like heck! I asked the vet if she could of done it in the crate but he did not think so. i am going to call the vet now. Thanks again!!! |

| I'm so sorry to hear about Hope! Oh, Im so sorry to hear about little Hope. Maybe this will make you feel better. Our Gracie jumped from husband's lap two weeks ago and broke her left hind leg. We were a wreck as well, and the emergency clinic talked about surgery too, but so far she's only had a splint and will be x-rayed again next Friday to see how well she's healing. Our regular vet thinks she'll heal just fine without surgery. If the bones have healed by next Friday, she should be able to stay out of the splint and get back to normal activity. It's been challenging, and she wasn't herself for about 4 or 5 days, but now she doesn't even seem to know she has a splint. She's running around (FAST) on three legs. I truly know how upset you were, but she will probably be just fine. How old is she? My vet said that Gracie will probably heal quickly because she is so young (5 months now). Gracie, John, and I are sending lots of prayers and hugs your way.
