| Help Please! My family got a new puppy a week ago, and hes stopped eating and drinking and only sleeps now for the past 2 days. The problem is, I'm in Korea and I'm an American. (korean-american) my grandparents took him to the vet yesterday and today and they've gave him some shots, but I can't understand what exactly it is that is wrong with him. (language barrier) I feel like these vets dont really know what they are doing because he hasn't gotten better and they don't seem too concerned. But this baby is on the verge of dying! I know that people say to get NutriCal to give them some nutrients..but since im in KOREA...i dont think they have any here! Is there something else I can get to give him? =( im so sad. i dont want him dying on me. I have to at least do all that i can! Any advice will be greatly appreciated! |

| Get some Karo syrup from your grocery store. Offer him chicken and rice to eat. You could also try gerber baby food meat sticks, Its just important that you get him to start eating.

| I have never had this problem, but I do think I have seen people on here say that you can use Karo syrup if you don't have nutrical. Hopefully someone more experienced will reply to you. Good luck! |

| The Nutrical is for low blood sugar and increase appetite. But in your case it sounds like your puppy needs more vet care. If you don't think the first vets know what they're doing have your family get a second opinioin. Got to another vet. It sounds like your puppy is really sick if she hasn't eaten in two days, maybe she should be hospitalized at the vet. Good Luck!

| Thhe problem with all this is that I'm in Korea and they don't have stuff like Karo Syrup and NutriCal and Pedialyte. If they have a korean version, I wouldn't know what to look for! I feel so helpless here. I'll look into the babyfood. I've been forcefeeding him. Thank you all so much for your help. |

| Well you could use Gatorade instead of Pedialyte. Tthe Karo syrup and nutrical is to ge sugar down him. You could just give sugar or syrup.

| Oh my gosh! I feel so sorry for you. Did you get this puppy there in Korea? If so you might ask the breeder where you can get things like that. It is so important that you get him hydrated and eating again immediatly. I think there may be a few people here at yorkie talk that can speak the language. Hopefully they will see this and help you out! I wish there was more I could do for you! But I just don't know what to say. Maybe try to find a different vet. There has to be someone there that can speak english that can help to translate. Good luck, and I will say a little prayer!

| Also you might ask your vet if he has Nutrical. Our vets here have it.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Anything sugury like pancake syrup will bring the sugar level up but sounds like more vet care is needed ASAP

| I'm so sorry to hear about this... Like someone said it's just the sugar in the nutri-cal and karo syrup so try something like that..... I know I'm repeating but babyfood is what I had to feed my first little girl for the first month.... Gerber Chicken (You may not have gerber but there has to be some kind of babyfood)...Is there no one there with you that knows both languages that could go to the store or vet with??? Crystal

| Ok, so....His poop...(I don't even know if I can call it that) is basically LIQUID. No solids at all, not like diarreha. Its a brownish/red color and it smells like blood! The time is 6:44am here right now, and we'll be taking him to the vet once again. This is the 3rd day in a row that I have taken him in! From what my grandparents roughly tell me, is that they are saying that "his stomach is upset and just wait till he gets a taste for food again" OK NO!!!!!! That's ridculous!!!! They need to do SOMETHING. They gave him a couple shots...(I'm not sure what...I couldn't understand the translation...but I think something like nutrients???) I've been forcefeeding him, and I'm heading out to get some babyfood and something similar to pedialyte (hopefully they will have it) It's so frustrating having to be in a foreign country and not know anything! Wish me luck and hope that Seany gets better =( Last edited by mapleoaks4; 02-21-2006 at 01:57 PM. |
