| blood in urine? Tonight I noticed that Chloe has a black spot on the end of her vagina. I don't remember if it has always looked like that or not.. but I don't think so. Then I noticed on her pee pee pad there was a spot in her urine, kindof a large spot.. it was brownish. I don't know if it was blood or not.. but this really worries me. I laid a new one down and she went on it.. and it wasn't on it this time. Is the black spot normal? Should I take her to the vet or wait to see if theres anymore spots in her pee?

| Blood in urine is never good. I would take her to a vet. With blood in the urine there are three likely sources -- from the bladder, from the kidneys and from a clotting disorder leading to generalized bleeding tendencies. Occasionally there is a problem in the urethra or vaginal areas of female dogs leading to blood in the urine but this is less common that the above problems. Bleeding from the bladder usually occurs because of cystitis (bladder infection), bladder stones or bladder cancer. Bleeding from the kidneys can also be due to kidney infection, kidney stones or cancer affecting the kidney. In addition, traumatic injuries may lead to bleeding from the kidneys I hope nothing is wrong but I wanted you to know this. So yes I would have her checked by a vet. |

| Take her to the vet and have them do a urinalysis and a urine culture...They might want to do bloodwork, but the urine tests will help determine the cause of the blood in her urine. Miko has blood in his urine sometimes also due to stones and crystals. For Miko though, this is a symptom of his liver shunt, and unfortunately his are recurring...

| Please take her to your vet. Our Pebbles had a urinary tract infection not too long ago. She was placed on antibiotics and it cleared up. She's fine now. Keep us posted.

| I'm going to wait to see if it happens again. I'm still not sure that it was blood.. it wasn't fresh.. whatever it was had soaked into the pad too.. so it could have been something else. She has peed several times after this, but I dont see anything in it. I can't really afford lots of vet bills for it to turn out to be nothing.. but I'm going to watch her and if I see anything like it again then I am definately going to take her! Thanks for everyones advice.. I will keep you posted on her.
