Default Question about dry heaving??? Is it bad???

Ok my Lucy is doing fine but my new pup tank (miniature schnauzer 10weeks 5 days) has on (2) different occasions woke up in the middle of the night and sounded like he was gion to get sick but nothing came out. I just assume it's dry heaving. He eats pleanty thoughout the day and at night. I never pull up his food bowl so he eats up until he goes to bed and that's why I don't understand why he would be dry heaving. I figured he would throw up every time. Well I havn't taken him to the vet about it b/c it's in the middle of the night when it happens and after he does it he just goes straight back to sleep.... He doesn't act like anything is wrong during the day...

Is this something I should be concerned about???

Thanks for any input..
Crystal

Mine do this too and I think it is okay a long as they are not depleting the body of necessary fluids and water causing dehydration which is what can happen when they throw up a lot in a short period of time.

I've noticed Madison doing it a lot lately too. It sounds like she has a hair-ball or something
It doesnt sound too pleasant, but I havent been too worried about it. I am happy to hear that others are doing it too though!

This sometimes happens when some hairs get lodged in their throats and they sometimes dry heave or hack to get the piece of hair out. Even though Yorkies don't shed a lot, they still shed. They might have some hair on their toys, and sometimes even in their bowls. Not to worry, my vet says this is normal if it doesn't happen all the time.

OK Y'ALL HERES WHAT MY VET SAID TO DO AND IT WORKS...

When they begin to make this noise(Tigger was doing this and it scared me so I had to ask) Gently close their mouth,if it is open, and blow into their nostrils. It may take a few times, but it works. Make sure it's not a long blow just a short huff into the nostrils. He said it's fairly common and not to worry about it too much. He also said that it could be due to their soft pallate not being fully developed or from it being relaxed. For most dogs he said it'd because the soft pallate is just relaxed more then normal.
