| My baby had a knee-cap operation and no poo since! HELP PLEASE URGENT Ozzie, my yorkie had to had a knee-cap operation. He is out know and looking at him makes my eyes water, even I know it was the best thing to do for him, otherwise he would have lived a life in misery. But, since he had the operation last Wednesday morning, I am almost 100% sure he has not had a poo. We have seen the vet for a post op consultation and they said it's normal after an op not too have a poo immediately. But after all it;s now sunday, and I am getting v worried. Can his painkillers stop him doing business. Can anyone help please. Many thanks, Ozzie : |

| I can't offer any help with this...other than getting with your vet or clinic again...that seems too long to me! Regarding his knees, was in pain all the time (hardly walk, jump, limp, etc)? I am just curious as my little guy has knee problems, but he doesn't show any pain, etc. and the vet said that surgery would be the last resort for him. -meaning, since he isn't bothered by it, he will be okay until they cause pain....since most small breed dogs have knee problems. Thanks! I hope all is well and please post when you get good news! Anyone on that can help?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Medication can cause constipation - I would call your vet right away to tell him about this problem and possibly he'll give you a STOOL SOFTNER that can relieve some of the struggle to 'go'....I would do this asap and GOOD LUCK ~! |

| You might try rubbing his anus with a little warm mineral oil. Sometimes that is enough to stimulate some action. Medications can cause constipation, but I would definately call the vet for professional advice. |

| Villette's right. Painkillers DO cause constipation. I would recommend calling the vet to ask what they suggest to give for a stool softener. Sometimes it's something as easy as an infant glycerin suppository. But call your vet first! Another thing, sometimes antibiotics, if he's on any, can cause him not to eat as much, so if food isn't going in, it can't be coming out. hehehe

| Yes - this is too long to go without going to the bathroom. If your pup has been on any pain medications - this is often the cause. Anyway - I'm sure the vet can give you something or let you know what she might eat to help her get going again. Carol Jean |

| Thanks for all your help and kind words. We have been to the Vets and he gave Ozzie something to make him poo. The vet said it was not an emergency, but for myself as you all know, it is when something is wrong with your little darling. Thanks again and I am so glad to have found this site. |
