| I am so sorry Marcel is still having issues. I am personally not a fan of chiro. My Olivia is on Methocarbamol for a neck issue with pain radiating to her front leg and has shown great improvement while on it. We took her off a couple of times and after a week or two the symptoms returned, so we have left her on it with great success. Hope it helps Marcel. Will keep him in my prayers.

With Marcel...not seeing tremendous results with ANYthing yet . Whereas when Wylie has an IVDD flare up - we do the Pred, Metho, and Tram -- and *poof* works like a charm!

| Aw.. Ann, as I was reading through all the posts, I was practically holding my breathe waiting to see when you were going to say Marcel has fully recovered. I'm so sorry you're still figuring it all out. I do really hope you are able to find a solution soon... I just want to share my experience with you about my past dog (though not really the same as your situation). Back then, we never really did tests on our dog. I am so very intrigued by the number of things specialists actually do for pets! Anyway, our vet had told us that at her old age of 16-17 years her degenerative spine/disc issues was unavoidable. She was prescribed some pain meds, we gave her joint supplements, but she eventually lost both legs. But she was still completely healthy otherwise and was eating and potty-ing as usual. I bought her a doggy wheel chair and she lived for another two years. Not that my dog and Marcel has the same issue, but through my experience, the one thing I would have done differently was to introduce the doggy wheelchair earlier. After she lost both legs, she was in so much shock. I felt the immense pain in her desperate cries and understood her helplessness, sadness and frustration on why she couldn't stand up anymore. It took some time for her to adjust on the wheelchair. After she got used to it, she was much better - I could see in her eyes that she was happier again. Had I gotten her the wheelchair ahead of time, while her hind legs were still weak, but when she could still walk, the transition would have been significantly less traumatic. I don't know anything about dog health issues and I really don't want to imagine that Marcel would get to the stage of losing his legs. But this was just a thought and possible measure for you to consider under a worst case situation... Keeping you guys in my thoughts. *hugs*

| My ortho told me when he gave me methocarbamol for my cervical spine it should take 2 days to get a full blood level so probably something like that for dogs. Sure enough, on the 2nd evening, I was beginning to feel the results. But it sure makes me feel weird, even half doses would go straight to my head, make me feel dull, woolly-headed. Hope Marcel begins to feel better soon.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Well...I don't truly think the Metho is doing much at all here...but I'm going to give another full day and part of Monday to fully assess and be fair as possible. I'm pretty bummed. Metho for some dogs works small miracles! Not looking so for little Marcel. But, I'm not giving up quite yet either....ALL fingers and paws crossed please, my dear friends ! I think I may call the Chiro today and get a feel for him over the phone. I highly doubt he's had much experience with 3.8lb dogs, but ya never know. I'm just not sure this is the route to go. Soooo, if no real improvement when I reassess Monday -- then it'll be either the Chiro or the neuro next, or both....

| I am so sorry Marcel isn't showing improvement. Personally, I would see a neuro and get a diagnosis before I went anywhere.

| Wishing you well.......... Marcel must be a real trooper. Your vet might have something he can add to the medication to boost the effectiveness or treats a slightly different pathway. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yeah...I'm leaning that way as well. I'm sure the neuro has worked with Chiros and kind of knows when they might be a good addition to the mix, or not in certain cases. And they may be totally against it, period, who knows. But I think it may be very prudent to see the specialist first...

I'd never had anything other than an occasional course of antibiotics and childrens' liquid anti-histamine in all my 25 years of life when the orthopedic surgeon I worked for gave me TWO Robaxin(methocarbamol) 750 mg. along with TWO Darvon 65 mg. capsules when I wrenched my back that morning after slipping, almost falling from some spilled Cetylcide, had lightening-like, lancinating leg pain, could barely walk or manage to sit at my desk and life was growing more miserable by the hour. So, I went from no prescription medications of any kind ever in my body, aside from some antibiotics, mostly as a kid, to four very, very strong, awful pills ALL AT ONCE on an empty stomach that day at work. They all went straight to my head and stomach, I kept almost fainting to flat passing out and retched, puked all that afternoon and into the evening, my husband had to come to the office, carry me to his car (leaving my employer to greet, check-in her own patients, do her exams and take/develop her own x-rays, answer the phone, etc., plus administer any treatment to our patients all on her own) and drive me home and then carry me into the house, where I slept through that night when I wasn't throwing up, slept through the whole next day and into that night before I regained consciousness and could speak coherently, mostly vocalizing only to complain of the worst headache of my life and constant nausea with poor Jimmy constantly talking to the doctor any time I woke. I wouldn't take any more of any of those meds despite the awful leg pain until my doc finally okayed me cutting the doses to half a Robaxin pill and opening the Darvon capsule and emptying half the medicine onto a piece of bread I formed into a kind of capsule and swallowed with an icy cold Coke. Still got loopy and sick as a dog but nothing like those horrible four strong pills together and still wonder why they didn't just kill me. Felt like I was dying for two whole days, wishing I had most of that time, and I've feared and had bad side effects from most prescription medicine ever since.
