| high white blood count Anna is the pup I got from a rescue 4 years ago. She was estimated to be around 6 at the time. My vet thought she was older. So, she's 10-12 years old. She had a dental scheduled for this Friday. However, she has been losing weight without cause and just kind of lays around all the time. She went from a chubby 8 pounder to just at 6 pounds. This is not a bad weight for her, but an unusual weight. I took her to the vet. He said her glucose was a little low and her white blood count was high. Otherwise, all blood work is good. He thinks it's possibly her teeth. So he put on her an antibiotic for 2 weeks. He also put her on an anti-inflammatory---probably for life. He postponed her dental for 2 weeks from now. I'm still a little nervous about the dental. Perhaps her malaise is caused by the teeth. But she is just not herself. Her head hangs low a lot. We went to the park earlier this week and she didn't even want to walk around and smell everything like she normally does. I guess I just want some reassurance that this will all get better after the dental and that she will be ok having the dental.

| What is the anti-inflammatory that they prescribed? The lethargic symptoms could be due to that... |

She started the meds yesterday. She has been noticeably fatigued for a while now. At first, I thought it was her age, but it seems to be getting worse. I can't see any changes in her today. But she's only had two doses of each med.

| Periodontal disease in yorkies can cause many issues. I do almost yearly dentals on my pups...of course it varies from one to the other. Some are worse than others. I have had pups who could actually benefit from dentals every 6 months. It is hard to say if that is what is going on with her for sure...but since your vet did lab work and it is all pretty normal, he may be right that it is the cause .. You didn't say, but I am thinking maybe she hasn't had a dental in years. Brace yourself for the fact she may end up losing most or all of her teeth if that is the case....but, if they are bad, then better out of her mouth! I remember a little boy yorkie who was estimated to be 12 who came to me with horrible teeth...they were the worst I had ever seen. As soon as he woke up from the dental, he was a different pup! He was yapping and running around...it was funny. He was immediately better! Prior to that he was a quiet little thing...they must have been hurting him. I hope the same result for Anna. With the antibiotic now and the anti inflammatory you will soon find out I think...just give it a few days. Please keep us posted!

Has she had her urine checked? Maybe she could have a UTI...they can really make them feel awful. She is lucky to be so loved.
