| Hemorrhoids maybe Hello, I am new to this sight but not to Yorke's. My male yorkie rectum has what looks like a swollen hemorrhoid gland. It first started out sorta small, o though it might have been prolapse rectum at first, but watched it for a week or so and decided to use preparation H on it. It seemed to be getting better, then I didn't see my baby boy acting like he was hurting, so I resumed our daily life. Over the past few months now , I have not looked at it, (it has been several months) and now its larger. I really don't think its cancer and don't want my baby cut on. Has ANYONE had any rectal issues in Yorke's. I am desperate for help. Thanks and god bless. |

| Your dog's anal glands probably need to be expressed manually. Have your vet do it. The vet will tell you if the glands are impacted and infected. In that case, it is very important that your dog gets antibiotics. See the vet immediately to prevent more serious problems. You will save your dog from suffering, and you will save yourself heartache and money in the long run. Scooting and licking are often signs of full anal glands. You should also take a look back there regularly, daily as Vicki suggested. No more Preparation H!

| Your picture did not post. It might need to be re-sized. Yorkie Talk has a size limit that shows when you post a picture, measurements and file size (kb). Regardless, you really need to take your dog to the vet. Anal glands can rupture if impacted or infected. It's very painful for your dog and will end up costing you more heartache and money. Can also cause lifelong problems with pooping and may even require surgery if allowed to get to that point. Avoid bigger problems. Just see the vet. Most dogs empty their glands naturally. Some need them expressed manually. Do not attempt to do this on your own at this point. You can cause them to rupture. Sometimes a change in diet can cause the glands to get impacted when the dog naturally expressed them before. The smaller the dog, the more attentive you have to be to the rear end. Check regularly/daily to make things stay clean back there. Sometimes small dogs get things stuck and that contributes to problems.
