YT 500 Club Member | My baby mishka not acting himself It's been awhile since I've been here. Just wondering if anybody has info on what could be suddenly wrong with my baby. These past 3 days he's been different. Loss of appetite, and drinking. Trembling lIke a leaf. Panting off and on, Walking slow, not jumping or running around. Stopped barking at noises, also noticed stiff body, arched back, cried when I picked him up from under his chest a couple of times. Took him to emergency tonight. Doc seems to think he may have IVDD. (intervertebral disk disease) doc said he's in pain. They gave him morphine by IV. Sent him home with pain meds, muscle spasm meds, and predisone meds. If not better in 2 days, go to my own vet for xrays, and blood work. It's just hard to believe this can happen over night. Xray will give definite answer doc said. Also to be crated for 2 weeks to heal. No movement at all. To be picked up for Potty outside, no walking, jumping, running, of any sort. Any info would be appreciated. Food for thought. Can a unruly 4 year old hurt a 5 pound yorkie to cause this type of pain? Came home to this toddler in my home with his mom who is my daughters friend. Just wondering. Trying to find other causes for my babies pain.

| I am very sorry to hear your baby is in pain. Injury is a strong possibility. I would do the xrays, and follow the doctor's instructions for strict crate rest. Max and Teddy have both have had neck/shoulder/back strains at separate times. I believe they were both injured wrestling with each other. We witnessed Teddy's, but not Max's. Their reactions were not quite as severe as your baby's, but it was scary. Thankfully they both recovered and haven't had any further problems. I would be worried about what happened with the child and your Yorkie. Praying for your baby. Please keep us updated.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yes, a 4 yr old could absolutely hurt a dog, without any doubt whatsoever. Are they left unsupervised...? IVDD is not uncommon. My Wylie has flares of it and when he does, he gets pain pills, steroid, and muscle relaxant for about 5 days and then it resolves. I would most def get the xray asap!

| So very sorry your lil guy has been injured. A 4 year old UNRULY child can most certainly seriously injure a 5 pound fur baby. Keeping little Mishka in my prayers for a speedy and full recovery. And tell your daughter to keep that kid out of your house and away from Mishka, this baby has to heal.

YT 500 Club Member | I wasn't home when my daughters friend and her child were at my house. My daughter claims her friend or her child would never hurt mishka. Although my daughter was in the shower while her friend and son were alone with my yorkies for a short while. Will an xray find out if my yorkie has IVDD?

And definitely a child of almost any young age can badly hurt a Yorkie.

YT 500 Club Member | Update on mishka He slept ok last nite. Morphine from emergency vet hospital helped a lot, he woke up this morning with little trembling. Still no appetite, drank water himself rather then me using a dropper. Called my vet this morning to see him, but he's not in today. His office said to continue meds, and will be seen tomorrow morning when his vet will be back. I will update after his vet appointment. Thank you everyone for your advice. Plz pray for miska. Hoping it's not IVDD, OR ANYTHING ELSE PERMANENTLY DAMAGING!

| I am sorry your Mishka is hurting. As to that toddler...I say if it has feathers, quacks and looks like a duck, it's a duck. Something happened to him! I am sure it was not intentional, but I would make sure it didn't happen again. Lay the law down...tell them if they are ever there again, to please crate Mishka or put him in another room. Children and small pups do not mix! I have cared for countless yorkies over the years that were hurt by children..not intentional, but hurt nonetheless. Praying he is fine with meds and rest. Nice to see you btw.

YT 500 Club Member | Vet appt update Mishka was examined by Doc today. Exam concludes what emergency Hospital doc suspected. Current meds he's on will help mishka for next 2 weeks with confinement. Doc felt xray not needed till after 2 weeks if no improvement. But doc feels his pain is under control. May not turn out to be IVDD. So we closely monitor for signs of paralysis and pain. Will continue regiment of muscle spasm, steroid, and pain meds for next 2 weeks and pray for a full recovery! Thank you all for your concerns and advice! Also waiting for blood work results. Will update again when those come in.

YT 2000 Club Member | Dog Powerful prayer for your sweet yorkie. Lots of love surrounding you and mishka. Small children are unpredictable and yorkies are fragile little dogs. I hope your yorkie feels better. |

YT 500 Club Member | Lab update YAY! Lab work results show no infection anywhere. Mishka is eating and drinking water on his own now, a little at a time. Still very quiet. And seems sad because he can't get out and have full run of the house. But he's sleeping a lot from the medicine. From a barky, spazzy, playful little guy, its weird to see him act this way. Hopefully time will heal his injury. Thank you all for the power of prayers!
