| Brushing Teeth bleeding gums and tartar. I have been brushing my Yorkie's teeth for years, he is 10 years old. I use a very soft toothbrush and I bought a good toothpaste. I use Virbac Enzymatic tooth paste and Sentry petrodex. The later, I just started and appears to work much better. I noticed it appears to remove the tartar and I have only been using it for a couple of weeks. My issue is, if I do not brush his teeth for one or two days(happens rarely) and come back to brushing, his gums bleed and I am sure it is gingivitis or possibly the toothbrush. As anyone found a good method to get rid of tartar and at the same time not have the bleeding gums. I took him to the vet several months ago and the vet said his teeth looked good and that I had been doing a good job. I asked about the tartar and he said all dogs have a little tartar. Just not sure, bleeding gums and tartar persist. Please anyone having good results. Please let me know. |

| Just as with people, we brush our teeth, BUT we go for teeth cleaning. The reason is because we have tarter under the gum which a tooth brush can't get to. The same applies to dog's to as well, tarter under the gum's. My girl's have a Dental once a year.

| What is the best brushing method ? Yes ...it is so true they are just similar to humans. What I am asking is as anyone have a good method for brushing? I have to wrap a towel around his arms and then gently force his mouth open while talking to him and keeping him calm. He has a way of trying to lick the toothbrush because the toothpaste is tasty. How can I make this task easier? and more effective ? |

Oops this was to go on a different post. Concerning teeth .. I bought recommended toothpaste and additive to his water from Chewy.com and it is like a miracle. No more bad breath and his teeth have most of the tartar gone. Great products at Chewy.com and good medical technical sales crew. | |

| Having my first yorkie I dont know what I would do without this forum!!! My girl is 2 and half and when I took her for one of her shots about 3 mo ago my vet told me to keep an eye on those back teeth as yorkies are known for getting gingivitis and the back teeth are usually the cause. Well someone on here had a thread about a new product called Oravet chews. they have them for different size dogs. Anyway I thought I have tried many other things and I have to watch her weight so there werent many treats I will give her so I will try this. My first box I got online then my vet started carrying them. I was cutting them in half and giving her half twice a day , I was told she needs to have the entire treat all at once in order to get whatever is in it that breaks up the tartar and keeps more from forming. I took her today for her yearly check up and my vet was amazed at how nice her teeth were!!! Spice will let me brush her teeth as long as I am slow and very gentle, then she dont care how long I do it. But I only brush her teeth now 3 times a week , use the towelette plaque wipes daily and give her 1 oravet a day. So you may want to try them. |

| Wow sounds great I will try them A Chewy.com I asked and they recommend for his water bowl Dental Fresh Advanced Plaque & Tartar Water Additive for Dogs https://www.chewy.com/dental-fresh-a...rtar/dp/113469 and for brushing teeth Sentry Petrodex Veterinary Strength Enzymatic Poultry Flavor Dog Toothpaste https://www.chewy.com/sentry-petrode...ength/dp/56546 I am skipping a day, possibly two but his breath is clean and most importantly, his teeth are white instead of that ugly green brown of tartar. I am going to order what you have and see if that works better. I have been really happy but will try something different if it means no brushing.. but it appears that brushing is like washing your hands just need to do it more often than not.. Again will try Thanks a ton for the tip !!! |
