| New to this site. (Groomer might have cut to close) I had my 9 month Yorkie (Sparky) groomed, & noticed he kept licking his penile area. I saw the round opening where his penis comes out, with a tiny split. Like a small cut, that he keeps licking. Is the outer opening of his penis supposed to be completely round ? Or do some have a tiny split ? The penis area doesn't look infected but his testicles look like they have a small rash. I'm afraid the groomer might have cut the hair around his genital area a little to close for comfort... I applied some bacterial ointment on the rash, on his testicles... I put a cone around his head, so he won't be able to lick the area... Hopefully this should help heal the rash... I'm still a little concerned about the outer opening of his penis... Any comments or suggestions are very much appreciated... A concerned Yorkie parent... |

| Your poor Sparky boy! The penis has a slit at the top, the opening to the urethra where the urine comes out. It isn't a perfectly round hole. Sounds like he has some razor burn. I gave my Teddy a little razor burn with the clipper once. I put a little organic coconut oil on it to help it heal. The coconut oil is safe to lick. The back area between the legs can be hard to heal because of the licking access and because when they lie down, the area doesn't get good air circulation. The next time you have him groomed, tell the groomer about the razor burn and tell the person to be extra careful. If the rash is bad, I would see the vet.

| Thank you for your response... Thank you for your response... The rash isn't that bad & it's actually getting much better... Thank God... I was a little concerned about the round opening of the penis, but it seems that you're knowledgeable & your comments reassured me... Once again Thanks... |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Get a groomer preferable to come to your home. I have a mobile groomer come and I can watch her. She is so good with my JoJo. Be sure you choose a groomer wisely. Some of these pet shops are nightmares. They hit the dog with a hairbrush or burn them. Awful treatment for our precious dogs. |

I took him to the vet they gave him 50mg of amoxidrops 0.5cc's every 12 hours & tube of dermal vet ointment and a cone... he despises the cone and wiggles his way out. The medicine smells horrible so I can just imagine what it tastes like... the ointment deal is a challenge and the cut was so deep it still looks bad to me... I inspect when putting on his ointment and every time I see it ... it's like it just happened again.... livid! I took him to the vet myself and paid for it... per our pet insurance they suggested getting an itemized receipt and taking it to the groomers .... I did and they wrote me a check. Call your groomer and let them know what happened and if it gets worse your taking your fur baby to the vet and sending them the bill... most likely they will agree to pay. They do not want any bad yelp reviews! Hope this helps!
