| Post-Neuter So after making and chickening out of about three appointments to get Max neutered, we finally did today. His surgery was done by 11, but we were told to let him rest at the vet until 4. It's now 8, and he's still so out of it! He's had no food or water all day because he was not allowed any before the surgery, and he has no interest in it now. How long did it take your Yorkie to get back on his feet? And how can I give him a pain pill before bed if he's refusing food and water? It's hard to see him like this...

| Poor Max! Many Yorkies aren't really interested in food, or very little food, the day of having surgery. My Max can eat under any circumstances, so he had his full dinner. He needed his pain med the first night. Maybe give your little guy some more time and try to coax him to take the pain pill late this evening. If you have a little chicken or cheese, or something else to entice him, that might help. Try putting a little water on his tongue and gums too if he doesn't drink on his own.

| I'm glad the surgery went well and he is home. It is hard to see them groggy and out of it. I bet by tomorrow you will have the opposite problem: having to convince him to relax and keep him from overdoing it! My guy tried jumping the next day and found out that it didn't feel very good. I waited 10 days before letting him go back to his long walks. 2 weeks before a bath. Did you cry when you dropped him off this morning? I blubbered like a crazy woman. The vet thought she was going to have to sedate me. Sending gentle hugs to your adorable Max and good wishes for a speedy recovery.

| It worked! He accepted some cheese, so I was able to feed him the pain pill with it. And I was totally a mess as well this morning! I almost cancelled for the fourth time. Thanks again for the advice! I think he's feeling much better now that he's had something to eat.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Glad he's already perking up. The first day/night of surgery can be tough on them - so they can be really out of it. By the next day though, it's always amazing how much they snap back.

| Happy to hear Max is up and at it this morning! If he doesn't have an E collar on, keep a close eye on him. They often will lick that incision line and get it infected...or even pull the sutures out. I wouldn't leave him without an E collar when he is not being watched.

| Good idea, we've had to stop him several times from licking. I was so happy to hear at his bloodworm/check up that all of his teeth were perfect, and none had to be pulled. Glad he isn't having to recover from that too!

| Oh be careful...they can really make those incisions look ugly in a short time.

Yorkie Yakker | Oh my gosh even with a collar on Snickers would manage to get to his incision! I had to watch him so close for days vet couldn't believe he could reach it, but he could! He's a very determined boy |
