| Kidney Advice Hi All, I can really use some advice. Boomer and Thumper had their annual visit yesterday and Boomer's Kidney borderline high as 1.4. The doctor did a Urinalysis and his Urine Specific Gravity came back borderline high as well 1.015. The doctor wants to just monitor him right now and re-do blood work in 4 months. He also said to not give him and more protein that what is already in his food. i.e. no more bones. I asked if I need to switch his food and he said not right now as the Prescription Food is very expensive. I told him right now we use Natual Balance Duck and Potato (I really don't want to switch it because I just bought 6 large bags of it) I also asked what signs to look for if things get worse he said excessive drinking and urinating. I don't see that right now. He does urinate more than his brother and loves to mark when walking outside but I don't think it is excessive in my opinion. I have pee pads down and he will use them more frequently because he knows he can but there are times they are left completely dry. I hope I am just overreacting and nothing major is wrong with him. I would love to get opinions if the doctor is on the right track. I really like him and he seems to know what he is doing. Additionally, he wants me to give him Potassium Citrate once a day to get his PH levels down as he said they also came back high. Right now it is a wait and see game and I am not a patient person I just want my baby to be healthy. He is acting normal so I guess that is a good thing.

| I don't know what you pay for that Natural Balance but that's what I used to feed & the RX food isn't much more then that here in ID. Prayers for your babies. I know what you are going through as I have 2 dogs 14 & 16 yrs old & 1 kitty who is almost 19 yrs old going through kidney failure & I know they can't live forever but I hate kidney failure. Well I hate it all, I wish every living thing could just pass peacefully in their sleep with no suffering involved. |
