| Dehydrated, wobbling, vomiting It's been awhile since posting here...she was doing so well for awhile. Anyway, at 3am this morning when my husband and I came home she stopped wanting her kibble and only wanted treats. We didn't think anything of it and went to bed. Woke up and noticed a throw up stain on our sheets (thanks Sophie!) but she ate her wet food and god a drink and was still anti kibble. She had been at the vet for boarding for a week while I recovered from surgery so we figured they had been using wet food to get her to eat and she was just being a diva. However, she started acting weird again and threw up, but nothing came. Took her in for anal glands because that is sometimes her issue. They were full and she seemed happier when we left. But then from that point on she kept dry heaving every hour or so until she ended up actually throwing up bile and then continued to throw up slimy stuff for awhile. Then around 8pm she threw up slimy stuff with blood in it. She's been stumbling around a lot today and kind of bending her front foot over a lot. She had a new chew bone on Wednesday and she ate a lot of it and she has her usual pizzle and I gave her some green tripe Wednesday and Thursday. Rushed her to the emergency vet and they kept her for observation, said she was dehydrated and thought the blood was maybe from irritation from throwing up. They keep questioning if she has gotten into pot or pills but as far as I know she hasn't found anything to get into (as in I haven't dropped any medication and we don't smoke pot at all and haven't had any guests). They are running blood work and a pancreas test to check that stuff and have her on fluids overnight to see if that helps. Her bowel movements have been solid since coming home and she had one earlier today. Was small, but formed, kind of greenish but wasn't straining. The vet called and asked if she was always so uncoordinated as she said she feels she is spacey and stumbling a lot. She has always stumbled and slid around but seems more today than usual and the vet has never been concerned before. I am so scared right now and can't stop crying. I just got her back after a week and now something is going on. I am so scared right now and I don't know what to do or what it could be. The first vet was amazing but the new vet has made it seem like there is something really wrong with her. Waiting for a few hours to get the results back for the blood and hoping she jsut has an upset tummy or something. I can't lose her but I don't know what this will end up being. I just had surgery to remove my ovary and a mass to check for cancer and I can't handle something happening to her now. Please send positive thoughts or something...I am terrified. |

| Thanks guys. My health scare has been going on all summer so far and results won't be until the 26th of this month...been scary since there is a strong family history of ovarian cancer. Five years of trying to conceive with no luck and now short an ovary, Sophie is probably the closest we will have to a "baby" so this is rough right now. So many emotions. The vet just called and said all her blood work was good, including her pancreas. So they have her on the fluids and are starting her on some anti nausea. She said she definitely has something gastro going on and they will call in the morning with their opinion on whether the meds and fluid were enough or if they feel she needs an X-ray as well. We are okay with doing what she needs but did tell them we are on one income and they agreed with us to only do what they feel is necessary. So they know they can do what they think is necessary and we are prepared for that and the vet tonight said if it were her dog she would do fluids for sure and blood and see what happens after being on that when they introduce food again to her. So...I think that is goodish news. I am seriously hoping she just has a really upset tummy and giving it a rest will be good for her. Fingers crossed...she's my whole life (I mean my husband and cats are too but monkey holds a special place in my heart!) Last edited by danniko; 08-05-2016 at 10:13 PM. |

| Update. Vet called and said she is doing good and hasn't been sick this morning. They are going to try and introduce food to her around noon and see how she does with that. If keeps food down, will pick her up later tonight (they want to observe for 24hours regardless). If can't keep food down, will do the X-ray to rule out anything in her abdomen. Hopefully some rest and fluids has helped her and she keeps her food down when they give it to her. It's been a long night but I just keep telling myself that she is in the best place right now and as much as I want her home, she is where she needs to be until we know that she is safe. Fingers crossed feeding goes well and I get her back tonight. Trying to keep the positive in mind that her blood work was fine and we got her in quickly so hopefully some of her symptoms were caused by dehydration. Vet still thinks she ate something that didn't agree with her. The X-ray is partially to rule out an obstruction but she has had normal bowel movements right up to going to the vet and her belly isn't causing pain when pushed. So really hoping those are all good signs... |

| Waiting for the vet to call back. Is that normal with a dog that's been admitted? I called for an update and the receptionist gave me the sympathetic voice as soon as I said Sophie's name and then told me I had to wait to talk to the vet and she would call as soon as she can? I've never had an animal spend the night like this before. Is it normal to have to speak with the vet? And in anyone's experience, was no news good news or did they not update everything? It's been almost 3 hours since they tried feeding her an see haven't heard anything. Would they have called if they thought she needed more tests or would they wait for awhile to let us know? I'm so scared and nervous right now. I'm afraid she won't keep the food down or refused it flat out. We should be getting her back tonight by 10 is she is doing well but that's 7hours from now..wouldn't they have a general idea by now if we could pick her up? My anxiety is through the roof right now. Normal blood work was a good sign though, right? |

| I am so sorry....I totally know your stress. I have been there so many times. I do try to go with the "no news is good news" theory. Yes, it is common for them to refer to the vet....the staff members should not be giving updates! Try to think positive...I know it is hard.

| Update. She's staying another night because she still isn't interested in food. Waiting for another call back to ask some more questions. My husband is being a jerk and said he wants to put her down but they haven't even brought that possibility up as of now. Just want to see if they have any ideas or feel she should have the X-ray. I really was hoping she'd come home tonight. |

| Maybe you could visit with her? Perhaps she might show interest in food if you are there? Has she shown improvement in terms of walking?
