YT 500 Club Member | So very happy, happy your Sissy is doing well. Puppy prayers for more improvements. Wish my Titan could have went to 1/4 of a pill a day. With his GME it was many meds every day. The end result was the same. I feel so sad for any pup & parent dealing with this.

| I lost my Layla to NME in 2014. I also have read about vaccinations causing this. The smaller dogs presented with this first & now it seems all breeds are getting it. There is a great site called "New GME dogs" that will guide anyone who has to deal with this dreaded disease. I just adopted a new Yorkie puppy last year and have to give her the rabies this coming Monday. I am sooo paranoid about everything now. Anesthesia, flea and tick preventative, heartworm, etc. Anything that may effect their nervous system. |

YT 500 Club Member | So very sorry for your lose and this terrible disease. I know very well what GME is and does. Lost my 7 year old Yorkie Titan from this heat breaking disease. He was diagnosed at age 5. For almost 2 years we spent 1,000's upon 1'000's of dollars to help him have somewhat a normal life. University of Tennessee Vet. Hospital was very helpful. He died just one week into his 7th birthday, Valentine's Day. Worse day of my life. Now we have Ruger, which has turned 3 years old. I'm on pins & needles constantly. He has all the core vaccinations and 1 rabies so far. Before my Vet wants to re vaccinate I'm for sure going to have him titer 1st. I refuse to give him more if he is protected. I pray no one has to go through this very hateful disease with their baby.

| I am sorry for your loss. It is truly heartbreaking to watch your baby go through that. Felt so helpless. Our neurologist suggested we let her go since the progression of NME is so terrible. I have learned a lot more about it now. I still question our decision everyday even though I really don't think the suggested treatment would have bought us much time with her. And I don't know what quality of life any of us would have had. Her diagnosis was idiopathic. So they really don't know for sure what causes it. Seems like there is so much going on with our pets now. More cancer etc. I hope your baby has a long healthy life. |

| Thank you for your response & for the articles. You are right they still don't know what causes it. Layla's diagnosis was idiopathic NME. But I will always question why & if I can do anything to protect my new pup I will do so. I will be titer testing for all the other immunizations but they force rabies every three years. I had my first yorkie (Chloe) for 17 years without any problems until the end. She died of renal failure. I never even had her spayed, I just watched her well & she really was not around other dogs. I did take her to the vet but never treated for ticks, fleas etc. So who knows. But the less chemicals the better. |

| My Troy passed away from GME Granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis very similar to what you're dog went through as well. Troy was 4 years old when I put him to sleep after a few weeks of watching him decline and hoping he would get better. I know how hard that was. It is said and some research has been done that some neurological disorders in small dogs such as GME has been triggered by combination vaccines. Troy did have a combo vaccine not long before he started showing symptoms of the disease and I think that has had a lot to do with it in his case. I'm careful of this now with my current yorkie Emma.

| My Sissy girl passed away at the end of January...She fought this ugly disease for 2 yrs...She was having a relapse, so we took her to the vet..He gave her a big dose of steroids and something to help her rest..She had went all week barely sleeping..We didn't get 3 blocks down the road and she died in my arms...I am pretty sure it was just to much for her ,already strained heart and lungs..I am at peace knowing I was there with her and she is no longer suffering..It was almost a year to the day that we lost our little Taz..He was a 4lb yorkie and he fell off the arm of our recliner and instantly died of a broken neck..No matter how much we love and protect them,we just can't stop it all |
