| Home with head trauma I previously posted about lily suffering from head trauma and i could only afford for her to be in the hospital for 19 hours where she received fluid therapy and pain meds. i have her now and she is sleeping but when she is awake she will whine until i come pet her. she's still drooling and has no control over her head. her eyes aren't twitching and she can now move her legs which is an improvement. she will also start kicking and thrashing if she whines and I'm not petting her which scares me because on the way home she put her self in horrible positions because of her neck i really don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. they said not to start feeding her until she shows signs of improvement but they were so vague on what i should be looking for. all the big signs like control of the neck and walking and everything else was estimated to possibly take weeks or months to recover so what small signs should i be looking for? they fear if i feed her even the smallest amount with a syeringe that she may choke because they don't know if she has control over her throat to swallow. and she hasn't eaten since yesterday morning then. They gave me a really strong pain medication to give her twice a day but other than that nothing. has any one heard of recovery from this type of thing? or any tips ? they said to try giving her all day today and tomorrow and if i can't get her to eat or she isn't improving then it will be time to consider putting her to rest. but i wanted to try everything possible. |

| These vets have essentially kicked you to the curb when your finances ran out....I find that absolutely deplorable and cruel, and I just can NOT imagine anyone that cares about traumatically injured animals, conducting themselves in such a manner. You MUST be able to feed this pup or it will NOT survive.....your "vet" knows this and I can not believe they did not do this one little life saving thing for you. You must have a feeding tube inserted on this pup. Is there an emergency vet you can go to? This is when you start rummaging thru your jewelry box for broken gold bracelets...with the price of gold being what it is, I would take every piece of jewelry that I do not/have not worn in any length of time, and I would be taking gold to those redeeming places where they pay you for gold...they weigh it and then give you cash for it......then take that baby and get a feeding tube inserted so you can at the VERY LEAST, give this unfortunate baby water/food. I am not above lying when it comes to saving my dog's life....I would show up at an all night emergency vet, tell them your pups feeding tube came out and you need one reinserted. You need to be sure your "vet" that sent you home with this baby and no way to give food/water without it aspirating and drowning, is closed so the emergency vet does not call them and catch you in a lie.... .....here it is the weekend and look at the dire straights your regular vet has left you in....this is cruel in my mind.....these people would never get another cent from me. Good luck with this unfortunate little darling....you are going to have to get very active and get a tube inserted into this little dog or it definitely will not survive over the weekend! I do not know what the back story is and why your baby is in this condition....but food and water and medication for seizures/swelling of brain/ etc seems to be in order.... | I'm so sorry, this sounds terrible for both you and your baby. If she isn't able to eat or drink then I would assume that is dangerous for her blood sugar and also for her strength. She must need a feeding tube and iv fluids. What are the chances of recovery from such an injury? Sounds quite hopeless and you don't want her to suffer. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you may have to make a very difficult decision. Please keep us updated. |

| Wow! This is heartbreaking! I hope you have found the resources to get your baby to the ER. My prayers are with you and your pup! When I hear things like this it keeps me up at night. Accidents happen but she needs you to step up and get care for her right now. I hope you are keeping it together mom and doing what you have to do to save your baby! Keep us posted...

| I have been worrying about your baby. I'm so sad that the vet just pushed you out the door with little advise on how to care for your pup. This is a terrible situation and I wish you the very best. This is heart breaking.

the vet I went to was an emergency vet and when they gave her to me there was no empathy she was in a good mood so she was chipper not bothering to at least pretend to care and change her tone to mimic my distressful mood. like I'm crying and she's smiling telling me "good luck". I will never go to them ever again. and during her stay i called multiple times and could never speak to the same person twice. and one of the doctors i don't think even knew which dog i was referring to because he said she was dong fine and sleeping when she obviously wasn't and i paid for an x ray and asked multiple times when they were going to do it and they never did but at that point i was done with them. when i brought home i was looking for ways to get money to put her to rest and ways to make her comfortable and speaking with organizations for help but it all just came to late. | |

| This just shatters my heart.......before you even think about getting another dog, please get a decent vet....someone with some compassion.... Meanwhile, you can be socking money away, to help you cover the expense of a dog in the event of a vet emergency....what those people did to that baby is inhumane and sheer greed.....I had a vet once, they dont like to take payments on time because soooooooo many people end up not paying their bill, but a couple of the vets I have known, will hold jewelry or even guns ....it is a pain in the butt for the vet to act like a pawn shop, but some of them would take an occasional case of patients they have in their patient list already, in order to save the pet....apply for the Care Credit.....you have to have financial back up for any pet you have under your care for just such instances as this. I think it is a terrible thing that vet would not try to work with you on some level, to help your pup..... What did they charge you to cremate the pup??? THAT is usually kind of expensive.....it would have been no cost at all to bring that baby back home and bury her..... |

| I'm so sorry for your loss!!!!! And the way you and your precious baby were treated. It's illegal to bury your pet in your yard here in our town.........when it's Buddybears time he will be cremated and his ashes will be with mine, if my sons fail to do this I will come back and Haunt them both.

| it was 30 to have her cremated but i paid 110 so I could bring her ashes home with me. I live in an apartment so I wouldn't have been able to bury her. Thank you so much for all of the kind words and i definitely will use this time to grieve her. my finances were low because i took two months off from work to be with her full time since I had to pick her up at such a young age and wanted to be with her. I will be researching a new vet since I am new to the area and I will also make sure to have a large amount saved especially if I decide to take so much time off again. |
