| New Puppy has Nystagmus Purchased a Yorkie boy thay was acting a little "dizzy" which I assumed was from being in the car so many hours (car sick), well after being alone with him I knew instantly something was wrong. Although he played with me and seemed active and happy his head kept tilting and eyes weren't still. I could have called the breeder and asked for the brother instead or returned him but after much thought my Husband and I agreed to keep him the way he is and we named him Twitch. Specialist will be able to see him in 2 weeks so we will have him checked then, they specifically said not to worry unless his behavior changes. I'm not worried as he's eating extremely well and playing (also using the wee wee pads on his own). My question is does anyone have an older yorkie or experience with Nystagmus in dogs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know if others with this condition have had a good quality of life, a glimmer of hope is all we need! ❤️🐶 |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sorry to hear your little one is having trouble. Nystagmus is odd -- sometimes, it can go soooo fast (ie, twitch so fast), that the affected one doesn't even really realize it's happening. So, it may be that your kiddo will do fine w/ it over time...best of luck! And do keep us posted...

| I woke up one day with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. If I laid on my right side or tilted my head back the room would start spinning, a sensation cause by nystagmus. It pretty much freaked by dh out when I showed him what my eyes would do when my head was in that position. It made me very dizzy and nauseous, so it's good that he is able to eat. Try to observe if the eye twitching starts when his head is in a certain position.

| I am not familiar with this disease either.. Is there also another name for it? Going to have to look it up.. I am so happy that you decided to keep him :-)

| I would think a visit to a board certified vet ophthalmologist and maybe neurologist would be in order!
