| Diarrhea--What to do? Gabby had severe diarrhea several weeks ago that contained mucus. We carried her to the vet and we were given meds to give her. We gave them to her and she got better. Today she has started having diarrhea again. This time not nearly as bad but it still concerns me. She acts fine. Eats, plays, and naps just like always. I have heard some on here say to give them pumpkin but I am not sure what to do? HELP! All vets in my area are closed due to it being Christmas. |

| Sorry to hear Gabby is having diarrhea again. Anything different or unusual in her diet? The immediate concern with diarrhea is dehydration. If her gums are pink and moist and she isn't lethargic, she should be fine tonight. Plain pumpkin might help, but in some dogs like my Teddy can make things worse. He is better with a bland diet of chicken and rice, nothing else, for a couple days. If the diarrhea continues, definitely see the vet again. Sending best wishes for your little girl.

For treats, I am pretty conservative. We use steamed chicken, very tiny amounts of parmesan cheese, baked sweet potato, scrambled egg, and a few other things. What works for one dog may not work for another, but I would emphasize tiny portions. Other than the chicken and rice, I give my 9 pound boys only a taste of the other things.

| She is two years old. She has gone potty every two hours since last night at 10 p.m. It doesn't have mucous in it. I have gotten her to drink some water. |

| I hope she is getting better. If not your vet may have hours today. If not check your area for emergency vets-it's always nice to know where they are ad what the telephone number is. Treats can be the culprit. There are not many I trust and I don't like strangers at the dog park offering them things. One of the people at the dog park gave my dogs a bag of treats-small brown bag, probably Petco etc-but rather than hurt her feelings I took them and disposed of them because Bubba has had a case of HGE previously and I don't want to ever do that again.

| Thank you for your reply. I have withheld food for 12 hours or so. I have given her a few kibbles to see how she does. She eats Science Prescription Diet D/D skin support from the vet (potato and salmon formula). We have always just fed her treats from Wal-Mart. Pupperoni is what she has always had. However, I am thinking that is the problem. What can be some other options for treats that I can give her? Thank you all again. The weird thing is she has acted fine throughout the whole ordeal. She is a tough cookie! I don't have children so this 5 pound Yorkie is my life. |
