Vet suggested biopsy, scared And worried:/ I am really happy to have found this forum, I have a yorkie named boop that I rescued a year and a half ago, she is believed to be about 8 years and I love her to pieces!! Her one eye has been a little more swollen and runny for a while now the vet said last summer at her check up that it might be allergies didn't seem worried On thanksgiving a family members dog scratched at her and that goopy eye started to bleed a bit, it looked ...sore.. Still a few weeks later so we took her to the vet to make sure it wasn't infected. So the vet checked her out out her on antibiotics and also did some blood work to check her thyroid because she also had "dry flakey" ears. Seemed out there to me but it came back normal when we took her back yesterday for her recheck the vet said it didn't look healed enough for being on antibiotics 7 days. Now I think it looks a whole lot better! Not 100% yet but she has another week of antibiotics. Anyways the vet insinuated (to my fiancé I was not there) that a wound not healing could be a sign on cancer and suggested a biopsy. He also had another vet look at a swab of some cells under a microscope which they said where at "various stages ". Now a biopsy would mean putting her under sedation and getting stiches and the under sedation again to remove stiches and this so so close to her eye! My fiancé wants to see how the next week goes but I am quite upset I don't want to put her through anything unnecessary I don't know what to think? Is this a test happy vet who just doesn't know what's going on or should I put my sweetie through all that ? A coworker used to be a vet tech said she doesn't think she would put her through a biopsy , said yorkies are prone to yeast /bacteria and skin issues and that it is more likely that Just thought some experienced yorkie parents might have some insight or advise sorry for the long post and thanks in advance !

When I get concerned, or worried if the path I am being encouraged to take, is confusing or concerning to me for whatever reason, I stop, stand still, breathe deeply, then go to a specialist!!! If a specialist says we need to biopsy or look more closely or more tests are recommended, then I usually do as recommended by the specialist. (This is behavior I have had in the past, over years, with other dogs and our show horses....thank God, I have not had concerning issues with my yorkies and their lineage....)

I agree with Yorkiemom1, I would go to a specialist. FYI there are other reasons besides cancer for slow healing a couple that come to mind are parathyroid & cushings . And your coworker could be rite on the money.

However, if the cells truly do look this abnormal...you may need to do more asap. I'd be asking the vet what exactly meant by "they look abnormal".
