Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my gosh, I am so very sorry for your sudden and tragic loss . I can't even imagine what your feelings must be right now. I wish you healing during this time. Please try to remember what a great life you gave your little baby. I don't think it was the milk bones; if the vet was able to diagnose liver cancer, it's probably a correct diagnosis...

| My heart breaks for you...it is devastating to loose our precious babies, and it matters not if they are 6 months old or if they are 14 years old....we adore our babies and when they leave us, part of our heart goes with them. I am so sorry for you.....I also have just last night lost one of my precious breeders....a precious, wonderful little lady that had blessed me with 3 litters of babies, made many new parents very happy, and I have kept one of her beautiful sons, Beaucephus (BoBo) here with my breeding program. My son also lost his cat yesterday morning....she was also 12 years old....and regardless if they had been with us for another 20 years, it would still break our hearts.....I am so sorry for you, and understand exactly what you are struggling to get thru. Like Ann, I do not think it was the MilkBones....that is the ONLY dog treat I give my dogs, that are not human food. Have given them for many, many years....unless your box was moldy or something, I dont think it was the MilkBone treats....it was not something YOU did, something YOU fed, etc......cancers in our babies is getting more and more prevalent, even in the human population, regardless of the billions of dollars that have gone to cancer research for the last 40 years.....dont blame yourself for this insidious disease your poor baby was affected with.... |

| I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Please don't blame yourself. You took her to the vet; you did all you could do. You obviously love her and took good care of her. I had a pup who got cancer, and it broke my heart. I looked for things I might have done wrong or things I could have done better. It's no use and it only makes you feel worse, as if you did this to your baby. It's not the truth. It's just the mind trying to make sense of it. It just happened. Cancer just happens. In people, in dogs. If Milk Bones products caused cancer we would have heard of it a long, long time ago. Instead of blaming yourself for something you did not cause, think of the good life you gave her. I can tell she was very much loved. Take care of yourself. You will never forget her, nor would you want to, but it will not always hurt like this. I can still tear up remembering my baby I had to put down in 2006, though I have two others now that I love dearly. But I only feel sad when I spend a while thinking about and remembering his death as I am right now as I type this. Right now I'm sure you can think of little else than your lost little one, but as the days pass, your mind will again begin to focus on other things in your life. Right now it's as if all you can see is darkness. As the time passes, you will see little dots of white in the darkness--when, for example, you find yourself laughing at something or enjoying something. As time continues there will be more and more of the white dots until the blackness is no more. She will still be in your heart but there will be space for joy in life. There are many, many people here who have been where you are now and our hearts go out to you. The YorkieTalk members are wonderfully supportive and will help you through this. You are not alone. When I put my baby down his vet called me that evening to offer her condolences. She asked me if I ever thought I saw him (my pup) out of the corner of my eye. She said she really believed that they remain with us, that their little souls survive and keep us company. Some people believe this; others don't. Either way, the memories of the time you spent and the love you have will always be with you. And in time the joyful moments you remember will supplant the aching in your heart. |

I've seen nothing about Milk Bone Dental causing problems, and more than one person on this thread has said they don't believe they're problematic. But you'd be more likely to get more responses if you posted your own question and started a new thread rather than asking on this one that was started by someone else about the loss of their pup. Alternately you can use the website's search function to look for specific information on a topic you're interested in. Of course, if your dog has a lump, as I mentioned before, it's best to get a vet's opinion. If it did turn out to be something serious, the earlier it's caught the better. I've found, however, that while I'm waiting for a vet to open, this forum can give me information and comfort. So post your question in the forum (starting your own thread) and keep us posted on your pup. | |
