My female bred while not in season I came home from work and my husband said that our male yorkie had mated with our female. I said she wasn't due to come in season. I looked down at her and she was bleeding and she was shaking as if she was in pain. I have never have had this happen before. Can my female be hurt? Should I take her to the vet?

You should always take your dog to the vet if you even SUSPECT they may be in pain. I'm not a breeder but there are those on here who are and who can assist you with a whole lots of advice which could have prevented this from happening and will in the future. Come back and tell us what the vet says, please. x

I have never witnessed a case of rape in any of my dogs....when the females were not ready to be bred, they were not going to allow a male around them......never had a male rape a female that was not in heat. I would get this female to the vet and see what is up, as something is not right.

I read something about a "silent season". But, I couldn't find much information on it. Does anybody know anything about this?

| How old is your female? Some females bleed very little when they are in heat and some females have silent heats. It is very possible she was in heat and you just did not know it. Also it is not that unusual for a female to tremble some when they are tied. You definitely need to take her to the vet and make some big decisions because it is possible that she was in heat and could get pregnant.
