| Cataracts, detached lens ? I have a new foster, Toby. Poor baby...his family called Animal Control to come pick him up because they did not want him anymore. He is 13 and they have two new pups. The shelter was sending out pleas and one of our foster homes agreed to take him in after I get him vetted and cared for. They had his vet records that ended in 2008...he has not been to a vet since. He cannot see or hear. His teeth are dreadful looking .. but the eyes are what stunned me. The shelter said that their vet told them the left eye has a detached lens. I have never seen this before and the things I am reading on the internet concern me. I will of course be calling the vet tomorrow...but I did call them on Sat and make an appointment for Tuesday morning. He is not blinking or acting like the eyes are bothering him, so I think it is probably ok to wait but I will speak with them and send them a photo. Just wondering if anyone has experience with a detached lens? In his photos you can see it is a round thing in the left eye and discolored. He was an angel while I groomed him ... and he ate well this afternoon! He is so sweet...sniffing all of my pups and they have all been great with him. The last photo is after his hair cut. He is a little doll baby. toby2.jpg IMG_3281.jpg toby1.jpg IMG_3329.jpg

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Nancy I agree those eyes look very distressed. Cataracts yes I have experience with but detached retina no - although with Zoey they were worried about this with her Lymphoma diagnosis. The blueing over the right eye might be just age related sclerosis(?) and maybe as well a cataract too. But it is the bulging of the left eye for me that is a concern. Gluacoma? maybe. I am so very glad YHR has taken him in and has the funds to care for his needs. But I am so very sorry to hear that a family got two new pups when they had one senior that obviously needed medical attention. I shake my head and bemoan some members of the humankind

| Wow, what kind of people dump a little senior Yorkie when he needs his family the most. No doubt, he gave these people years of companionship, cute little Yorkie antics, laughter, happiness, sweet Yorkie kisses and tail wags. Now he needs medical attention and his family dumps him. He sounds like such a sweet little guy. Can he see at all?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Omg, this poor little man...being dumped at this sensitive and vulnerable age like this, ugh!! I'm SO glad he is with you now. Wylie does have cataracts, but not the detached lens...

| Linda, thank you for picking up this senior boy and getting him the medical care he needs. I'm so glad he is being doted on too as he deserves. How cute that he is checking out all of the doggy beds (sounds like my Teddy, going from bed to bed), and that he found his way to water bowls. I pray his eye problems are not caused by a tumor. When I researched eye information for Max, I came across several causes for detached retinas. I have forgotten a lot of it because it was too scary to think of, but if I recall correctly it can happen for unknown reasons, or something small like an infection or a "melting corneal ulcer." Very sad to think that this poor boy received no treatment.
