| help... getting to much clavamox? The vet put my dog on Clavamox 62.5 mg twice a day for collapsed Trachea. He was just diagnosed with this last monday. He s also on prednisone 5 mg for the first 2 days then every other day. Last night he wasn't doing well. he was staggering couldn't jump up, and when I picked him up he screamed. Yesterday he only had the 2 dosed of Clavamox. I did not give him the prednisone. I looked up side effects for this drug and he isn't getting diarrhea or anything but I did come across the dosage for dogs, and it ssid 6.2 mg per pound. He is only 5 pounds. That would be at the most 30 mg and the vet prescribed double that. I did call yesterday and questioned why he was even on the antibiotic in the first place for ct? He seems ok today Jumping up the couch and going up and down stairs again, but I haven't given him the antibiotic yet. We just gave him the prednisone. I am waiting to here back from the vet. I called him again. hopefully he calls back. Anyone if you can while I wait to hear back know the answer if this is to much. |

| My dog had Kennel Cough... Not sure if it makes a difference but she started with Clavamox.. she weighed 1.5lbs at the time and was given .15ml by mouth every 12 hours for a week the bottle says" Clavamox drops 62.5mg/ml 15ml.... Clavamox didn't do a thing to her so she started Orbax while she was on Clavamox (on the 5th day to be exact).. it only overlapped a few days but believe me.. just like you I was scared that it might be too much. Make sure you are reading the instructions right and understanding what the vet says?

YT 500 Club Member | For collapse trachea he should be on the predisone for swelling but I would think they would him on cough medicine for the coughing too. Most dogs go on prednisone and cough medicine when there Collapse Trachea is kicking in. |

| Thanks for the responses. The vet wanted him still on the whole dose of clavamox but, said I could half them if I wanted to. He didn't want me to stop giving them to him. He said that he was doing it for maybe a respiratory infection. I have asked for the cough syrup they didn't get back to me on that yet. Maybe on monday I can get them to give me something. |

| My Toby was just diagnosed with collapsing trachea last week too. He's on Clavamox too but he's on the liquid form so I'm not sure about the dosage for the pill. He's getting 1 ml twice a day. The vet also put him on 2.5 mg Prednisone once a day for 10 days then once a day every other day for 10 doses. From there she said we'll wean him to lowest effective dose to keep his symptoms away. She also put him on 1/2 tablet Benedryl twice a day in case it's allergy related. So far it seems to be helping. Fingers crossed for both our pups.
