| Recue - pooing, coughing and lump Hi everyone, sorry I think I have been on here asking so many questions this week. We have rescued a wee female Yorkie about 9 days ago. She is about 8 or 9 years old. On Saturday I was peeling some potatoes and dropped a potato skin on the floor and she gobbled it up. She is not the best eater so I thought oh she likes those and so give her another one and tried Alfie with it too and he turned his nose up. I also feed them some plain chicken for dinner that night as she doesn't seem to be eating her dog food. The next morning she had diarrhoea a few times in the house. She is house trained so I know then she was sick and when I googled potato skins it said that they are toxic for you dog. Well I totally panicked but just kept an eye on her and her stools seem soft but more solid looking now if that makes sense. Last night she got a hold of Alfie's rawhide bone and she seems to be enjoying eating it so I thought it was something that she had been given by her previous owners. But this morning she woke up coughing and although sometimes Alfie does this, I am more worried for her as I don't know her background. My husband also found a wee lump near her breast which I am now also concerned about. The wee pet also has a severe heart murmur and something wrong with her back leg. She also seems to poo a lot and I don't seem to her eating much food. Although she does cry when I am eating so I am wondering is she just used to eating whatever her last owner eat. I am due back to the vet with her on Monday for her second injection. Do you think there is anything wrong with her and would it be best to go to the vet today with her? Apologies for the very long post.

YT 500 Club Member | If she has a severe heart murmer she might be coughing due to that. Dogs can cough from Kennel Cough, Heart Problems or Collapse Trachea. Even acid reflux makes dogs cough. I have a 1 year old and he has made a hacking noise since I got him. Not a full cough just like a fast hack and vets can not tell me why he does it. I would just try different foods on her to find one she likes. Just keep an eye on the cough. Maybe the raw hide irritated her throat. Has she coughed ever before? |

| Hi thanks for all your replies. I ended up coming home from work that day and there had been three separate piles of diarrhoea in different places in my house. She also vomited on my sofa (lucky it's leather) so I ended up taking her straight to the vet. They took her temperature which was fine and said she has gastroenteritis and could be because of change in diet or because I wormed her. They were not 100% why but gave her an antibiotic by needle and some zantac for her stomach and something else which might have been for the diarrhoea. There was no episodes yesterday from her but this morning when she was out going to the toilet (which seemed more solid) I had to shout at her as she was sniffing it. I am not sure if I had frightening her and therefore wasn’t finished because I ended having to clean her bum. Yesterday my hubby informed me that Alfie also had the runs but he was able to wait until he got outside before going so I gave him some of Penny’s meds to help him too. He went twice this morning and I had to clean him both times although not as messy as Penny. So after thinking it all through and figuring out why they have been like this, the vet gave me NexGuard tablet for them for fleas and ticks. So I am wondering if it was that. The vet told me to keep her on the hard food but I really don’t see her eating anything and she cries at me when I am eating. I feel bad as I feel as if I am starving her even though her bowl is full. About the lump, it could be a hernia or the start of a tumour which will be looked at when we get her spayed. I am just hoping its a hernia.

| Sorry about this.. My dad fed his Yorkie potato skins and the poor thing had seizures afterwards. The vet told him that uncooked potato skins are toxic to dogs. Yours may be having a reaction but, if it's any consolation, the effect was temporary. Maybe don't feed skins, again? I hope things start looking up...xox |
