Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Pain meds not working...:( They gave Bonnie pain meds after her spay yesterday but she is still shaking with pain 45 minutes later. The vet doesn't open until 9 am so I was wondering if anyone has suggestions. |

| What did the vet give her for pain? My vet always gives me Torbutrol in Vitamino....1/2cc, 4 - 5 times a day as needed to control pain. It is very easy to give by mouth, they dont choke and gag when they get it, it is a small, effective dose. You may want to SUGGEST to your vet you would like to give that a try.....tell the vet a friend of yours has always used that on her pups for post op pain, and it works beautifully. |

| When I go visit Bella, I will ask what pain meds they have her on and let you know. Might have something a little stronger due to the nature of her surgery that you could ask your vet about. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The vet will likely have you increase the med you currently have...but you'd want to hear the amount from the vet of course. Anytime I go home w/ pain meds, I always ask the vet ahead of time what the plan is if pain is not managed -- and they'll tell you what you should do ahead of time.

| I asked what Bella was on and I thought it sounded like tramodol, but could easily have been Torbutrol. I can say that she absolutely did not act as if she was in pain. |

| What is the update on the vet and the pain med? Did he give you something different or adjust the dosage on what you already had? Whatever he did, I hope your baby is resting comfoprtably! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I had a job interview. However, I call the vet and then went to pick up a prescription for Tramadol. She said I can give the Tramadol 3 times per day but still give her the other medication as well. The Tramadol appears to have worked because Bonnie ate her lunch and has been sleeping ever since. |

| That it great news! I know that I was surprised at the lack of pain Bella seemed to show. Hope it was the answer you and Bonnie were looking for.

| Great! Bless her heart! Now just watch to make sure she doesnt get over sedated.....if she looks like she is knocked out for long periods of time, back off on the frequency....you just have to watch your pup and use your common sense! |
