| Blood spots on belly - bug bites? I'm at at a cabin for the weekend, went for a short walk with my seven mo th old yorkie, Holly. When we got back to the cabin her belly was covered with what looked like blood splotches, but they would not wipe off. I waited an hour and hoped they would go away, instead they have grown bigger. There were bugs on our walk, not Mosquitos but little black bugs. Could these be from bug bites? She isn't acting differently, she seems fine/normal, she isn't even itching. Should I be concerned? I'm about an hour and a half from a city with emergency vet services. Thank you so much if you can relate to this and provide any information or tips. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yes it could be from bug bites. Do you have Benadryl with you and a first aid kit? I would also make sure I know the way to the Emerg Vet. You could also call and describe or take a pic and sent it to them and see what they advise for you For right now - watch for swellings - disorientation and or not wanting to eat or drink - these are all signs of illness. Do you have any essential oils there? Oil of lavender - Do you have fresh basil or lemons cause you can make a weak solution with boiled water - wait until the water is tepid then add your herbs or lemon and do a sponge bath. This is not curative but proplyatic to help reduce down swellings and or relieve itching.

| Your post made me think about something I saw the other day on Facebook. This is from some animal clinic: flybites.jpg We are having lots of calls and visits for these red spots on dogs. These are black fly bites and will fade and go away in 3-5 days. They look bad but do not require treatment. They are not painful and do not itch. They most commonly occur on the belly but can show anywhere a fly may bite.

| Yeah, that was a memorable one. LOL Funny, I only saw it the other day and then this post came along that sounded something like it. I had to go on FB and look for someone who had also seen it because I could not find it.
