| Help - spasms???...swallow, jerk head, lick I need some in put - Maggie is suddenly having what I initially thought was hiccups, but its not, its more like these spasms...swallow, jerk head forward, lick. Some very fast and repetitive, some sudden spurts and then she will be okay for a moment and then it starts up again. She is just laying here next to me on the couch. Its pouring rain here so she hasn't been out much where she would maybe eat something bad. She was groomed today at noon, at a new place. I asked if they would please put the least across her chest instead of around her neck (she is skittish and I am always afraid she will try to jump and hurt herself) - do you think maybe something happened there? I am keeping an eye on her...I brought her some water and she drank some. She just sort of keeps looking at me like, whats going on mom?

| She is also licking the couch cushion a lot like she used to do when we brought her home 9 months ago (mill rescue). So I don't know if this is some sort of anxiety reflex??? We used to have a mobile groomer, and I would be out in the van with her. But we moved and I had no choice but to bring her to a drop off groomer. I also don't board her, and I work form home. I am with her A LOT. Do you think she is just stressed out? She seemed ok when we got home. Played, ate, quick walk, nap. And now, these spasms. They are freaking me out.

| It may be stress, but I would not just assume that if she were mine. I would go to my vet. Hope she is ok. Poor baby.

| Lots of things can happen at a groomer. I have heard so many stories of injured pups and sadly not many groomers will inform the owner. I really think you need to get her looked at. Better safe than sorry.

| I agree with everyone else. I would suspect its anxiety until the question about the groomer. Lady Jane is right I think. You really dont know if something happened there unfortunately. The sooner you can rule out injury the sooner you can breathe normally again. Good luck!! |

| Maybe had some trauma or pressure inadvertently put on her trachea, has some residual swelling now. Could something have irritated her epiglottis or pharynx today? Maybe they sprayed her with something that irritated her throat or could be totally unrelated to the groomer. Poor baby, hope it's a one-off thing, stops soon and vet finds nothing wrong.

| Daisy does something like that when she has eaten grass and it gets stuck in her throat. if I can't get it out of her mouth I give her a little bread to push it down. Once she actually snorted a piece of grass out her nose.

| Yes, or could be too much talcum or something is globbed around her soft palette/pharynx or who knows what. Can you puff some air into her nose or something?

| This sounds like what Cooper did when he had a throat infection. Any update?

| Hi everyone! I just wanted to post an update. The vet thinks it was acid reflux. She might have swallowed too much water at the groomer or something. She hasn't done it since the other afternoon. I was told some tums or pepcid next time...if it helps, its for sure acid reflux. The vet did an exam and her throat seemed ok, whew! Thanks everyone for your well wishes - so scary when something goes wrong. I am glad that she is ok and it doesn't seem to be anything serious.

| Thanks for the update. That was my second suggestion. That's happened to Cooper in the past too.
