| Infected anal gland My girl, Emma, had an infected anal gland and I did not realize it! I did notice she was getting big in the backside but - dummy me - I thought she had put on weight over the bad winter we had! One day she would not poop - The next day nothing so it was an immediate visit to the vet. Two x -rays showed nothing in the intestines but a stomach which was very full. What did she eat? Hmmmm- she got a hold of a tissue. However, it was the infected gland that must have hurt so she would not "go." Anyway, a shot of a 2 week slow release antibiotic and an anti - nausea shot ( she never threw up) put her on the right track within a few days. Now she is fine! I did spend a good week before our return visit for another r -ray checking any and all poop for something else she might have ingested. Please note she is on a regular grooming schedule and has her anal glands expressed every time. The vet did express them and they were not full. So, just a word to the wise should your fur baby not poop! |
