| Diarrhea & Vomit NERVOUS MOMMY! Hi everyone! Looking for some feedback! Last weekend Waffles my boy who is just under 6lbs and 2 years old, started to have increased volume in his stool and it was a little softer, However I didn't think much of it since, he was eating a little extra kibble on previous days. I noticed it continued into the week, His stomach began to make noises after eating kibble, He started farting which he usually doesn't do and the stools stayed bulkier and soft, but I still didn't mind too much since he was 100% himself, playing, barking, eating and I related it back to increased kibble. Then yesterday happened, his stool was bulky and stinky again, still stomach noises after eating, however this time there was a little extra spot on his pee pad of what i would consider small diarrhea, throughout the night it progressed somewhat and he had to go several times to do little thumb sized mucus poops. Meanwhile he remained himself eating, playing, barking. This morning he had another mucus episode, i grew concerned and called the vet, one wouldn't see us without an appointment so i called the other vet which we visit also, and was told to hold back food for 12-24 hours, than introduce a bland diet. I began to hold out food, but noticed throughout the day he started to vomit, white clear liquid, and it happened mainly when he drank water ALOT at once, and his stomach noises would come back. He became tired in the evening, but perked back up to himself(we didn't get much sleep last night) He is still farting, but no vomiting since earlier today. He's actually jumping up on my keys asking for attention as i type this, so he's very himself right now. He is the type of dog who will vomit a little bile when he is hungry and when he drinks water too fast at once he will throw up sometimes. I am hoping that the vomiting was induced due to not eating for so long? It's been 10 hours but To say the least im nervous to reintroduce food tonight. He is still farting so i feel like perhaps his tummy hasn't settled quite enough! He has been barking for his kibble at his usual times. He does seem interested. I have pumpkin puree, chicken, rice, and pedialyte on hand! Is there anything I should do, or watch for? I would love ANY feedback or experience from a similar situation. Sorry for such a long post! Just a nervous mommy! |

| I would be concerned about pancreatatis. I would not wait and see. My Zoey has had P three times and her stool was diarrhea with white foamy vomit. Please call a vet that will see your little guy ASAP.

| I would withhold food for 12 hours and if no diarrhea or vomiting in that time give him a very small amount of boiled chicken and white rice. If after two hours, no further diarrhea or vomiting you can feed a little more. Keep on bland diet for 48 hours and slowly reintroduce his regular food. Here is a link to over the counter meds for dogs. Pepcid would probably help his tummy feel better. Pepto is also listed, but for some reason my vet doesn't like it when asked he said you had to overdose to be of any value. Simethicone (gasX for babies) would also help with the farting if his stomach feels tight and it seems like it is bothering him. OTC Medications |

| Any recent food or treat changes -- other than amount? I agree with Megansmomma that I wouldn't medicate unless you know exactly what is going on. One of my boys is a little sensitive and cannot even tolerate pumpkin -- the tiniest bit gives him diarrhea. When he has gastro problems, I don't mess around. We go to the vet. I would stick with plain chicken breast and rice, and if the problem continues, testing at the vet.

He's been eating the same dry kibble, just an increased amount. HOWEVER a couple days last week he was given 5 Cheerios on various days, this is not something we usually do. He is usually rewarded with his kibble. I felt this may have contributed as well. Like you mentioned with your dog I have a feeling waffles is quite sensitive to changes too which is why we rarely try new things or go off schedule.

| I would take your baby to the vet. Pancreatitis is very common in Yorkies and if diagnosed early can be treated easily. If not, it can be more difficult and can become chronic. It's also very painful. Have him checked out right away. |

| Just want to provide a little update after a long cautious night! After 12 hours of fasting, We were able to do 2 small "snacks" of chicken and rice last night. No vomit, no diarrhea. A slight tummy noise here and there but nothing like previous. But boy did he fart a lot!!!! He nearly gased me out! This morning, I woke to him licking me, waiting for his morning lunch. His typical self. So 21 hours since his last vomit/diarrhea episode and we are 4 small meals in of chicken and rice. He did have 2-3 farts so far today. So im hoping it's just gas that will pass now. He hasn't pooped yet today, but the meals have been very small. So hoping when he does everything is normal! Thanks everyone for the advice so far! |

Does dogs with pancreatitis remain themself or have farting by any chance? Aside from the farting and vomitting/diarrhea I would have never known he wasn't feeling well. He's been running around fetching his toys and jumping around. Drinking and begging for food. He was a little tired in the middle of the evening yesterday but we didn't sleep much, he took a nap and instantly perked up.

| I am such a Yorkie novice, but both of my Yorkies have had P. William had sudden vomiting, diarrhea, farting and acted very ill initially. He was hospitalized for a few days, needed an IV and pain medication. He was 2, now 15 and it's chronic. He has as no symptoms other than the blood work shows it. Lucy had a little vomiting and diarrhea but felt her usual very active self (age 3) but because of William's experience, I took her in and she had it but putting her on low fat diet got rid of it. Two totally different presentations. |
