| Uneasy and scared So Lilly had a vet appt last Friday to have a "tumor" on her head removed and to have a dental cleaning done. I was extremely nervous to begin with and awaiting the call from the vet. They called and said they were halfway through with her cleaning and she started waking up. They also told me that she didn't breathe all that great on her own while being asleep and they had to assist in her breathing. They never could get her back asleep so they rescheduled her for tomorrow. I am supposed to drop her off in the morning for the same procedure and I am a nervous wreck. What if it happens again or what if she doesn't breathe on her on and things go downhill fast? Is this normal??? They said they thought the anesthesia machine was messed up but assured me that there were other surgeries between then and tomorrow and they would know more by then. She is my baby, if something happens to her I don't know what I would do. Thoughts?!?! I knew you all would know the right things to say as you all care for your furbabies as I do mine.

| That's terrifying.... I wouldn't personally do it. Maybe wait a week or so? |

| I am so sorry for your baby. Personally, I would not return to this vet. Something is not right. I would go to another vet and discuss anesthesia protocol.

| Here is info on a good anesthesia protocol: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-protocol.html I would be really upset with a vet saying they "think" something is wrong with the anesthesia machine??.

| This would certainly scare me as well. Ask them if they had anesthesia machine checked and serviced and had all flow vents checked. If they say yes, I would certainly most want to see the check out report. As someone else has stated I would wait for a least a week, and then if it was me, I would also have them sign acknowledgement of previous non working machine and they would be responsible if any problems occur, OR I would take her to a specialist to have it done. Did she have a complete blood work up done before being out under ?? I am a very difficult Pet Mom and my Vet's know I ask all kinds of questions.

| I've decided I'm just going to call them in the morning and cancel the appointment. I couldn't live with myself if something happened to her tomorrow. I am going to wait and see what they say tomorrow about the machine. I feel as if they were very unprofessional about a lot of their responses. It also really bothers me how they said that she didn't breathe well on her own and they had to assist in her breathing, they told me this over the phone?!? Thanks so much for the input...

| Did they remove her growth/tumor? Telling a client things like our anesthesia machine is messed up is very unprofessional! I'd be looking for a new vet and pass on that dental tomorrow.

| My boss would have beat me with a shoe if I had ever told a client we had almost lost their pet because our anesthesia machine was possibly malfunctioning! I think you are right to cancel the dental #1 they need to get their equipment serviced....and #2 if it is just for a dental it's best to wait a period of time between undergoing anesthesia .... especially if she had some problems. If it's not life threatening I would wait....and in the mean time maybe research a vet with specialty in small animals.
