| sick & itchy Yorkie We have been to the vet more times than I can count in the last four years, Baby our 7 1/2 yr. old Yorkie has major skin issues. We've changed food, shaved her, special shampoos, $$$, antibiotics, and poor Baby gets no relief. This last time when her skin irritation went from horribly itchy skin to a full blown staph infection they put her on prednisone and antibiotics...yesterday she started vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, shaking uncontrollably. My husband has just rushed her to the vet. I don't have a lot of faith in them. Does someone have the same problem, with a solution?? Poor Baby is so sick!!!: |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm so sorry your Baby is sick ! She sounds miserable and you must be sick with worry as well. I do have lots of experience w/ allergies and skin issues as 2 of my dogs have allergies and we have a Vet Dermatologist we go to. Many allergy dogs get pyoderma (staph intermedius infection), so that's quite common as the skin gets inflamed and the immune system gets overwhelmed. It's usually treated w/ Simplicef x 30 days, especially if it's recurrent. For relief, the first thing to do is to figure out whether these are year round or seasonal allergies....bc that sort of dictates treatment. Are you seeing a Vet Derm? If not, find one ASAP as they will get you squared away super fast, rather than going to your own generalist vet like 5 times and still not getting this resolved. Vet Derms are more expensive, but are actually cheaper in the long run. For more on allergies in treatment options, read this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html And here are Vet Derms in NJ: acvd.org | Home | Veterinarians with specialized training in skin, ears, and allergy

| My mom just went through this with her dog. She was at a complete loss when the vet gave her dog Apoquel. MAJOR difference for her! She's a completely different dog! It is a new thing but mom was desperate and it seems to be working!

| I suspect the vomiting and diarrhea is a totally different issue. Glad you took her to the vet as they can dehydrate quickly! I agree with Wylie's Mom....it is probably time for a vet dermatologist. Welcome to YT. Please keep us posted on Baby!
