| Seizures after liver shunt surgery Hi My dog Mickey had two surgeries on Monday. He had a cystotomy and a liver shunt fixed with an ameroid constrictor. We took him home yesterday and he was really tired and drowsy but ok for the most part. My sister calls me today and says he is acting really weird. Opening and closing mouth, wanting to bite something, leg twitching, drooling, very lethargic. I took him to the vet a few hours ago and the vet said it looks like he is having a seizure. The vet put him on keppra and gave him a valium. The seizure subsided but we left him there overnight for observation. Should I be overly concerned that he had a seizure after this surgery? He never had one before and it was really scary. I was reading online that it's very dangerous to be having seizures after this surgery. Please help with advice. |

| I am so sorry Mickey is having problems after surgery. I have no experience or advice to offer, but will pray that he recovers soon.

| Did a regular vet do the liver shunt surgery or did a internal specialist? I'd be very concerned it it was done by a regular vet. Try to find a specialist in the meantime just in case.

| It was a specialist but I am in touch with a few other specialists over how best to proceed. |
