| Diarrhea and vomiting...ugh When Cerulean went to bed last night he was fine and this morning I thought he was fine too. There are some mornings he doesn't eat much breakfast so I didn't pay it much mind. He was going to the bathroom normally and had played with me. After lunch is when I noticed that he was more tired. He eats in his crate, when he's done and is ready to go potty he'll let me know. Today he didn't but I figured he was just extra tired. It wasn't until we noticed he wouldn't eat dinner that we got concerned. First thing we did was break out the Nutrical. After giving him that I told my daughter to see if he would eat something else so she gave him a few small pieces of a treat and he ate them. He still wasn't acting like himself though so we knew he wasn't feeling well. I automatically assumed his belly was bothering him but he still played and even devoured his dental chew. I wish I never gave it to him because an hour later he starts whining and I get to experience puppy diarrhea for the first time. We cleaned him and cleaned his bed just for another hour to pass and I get to see the upchucked pieces of dental chew and treat. He's sleep now but I'm worried about how he'll do through the night. I'm very scared about parvo because I've read all the posts about it on here and a lot of people in my neighborhood don't pick up after their dogs. Cerulean doesn't eat it but he does sniff it. I'm going to keep a very close eye on him tonight and call the vet first thing in the morning. I'm not worried about dehydration because he did drink some water around 7 which is normal for him. Not going to feed him anything else until we hear from the vet. Pray for my baby please. |

| Just because he drank some water does not mean he is not dehydrated! Dehydration can happen quickly when they are vomiting. You can check his gums....touch them to see if they are wet. If they are sticky to the touch, he is likely dehydrated. The fact that he is lethargic is a concern. You can also pull up on his skin between his shoulder blades to see if it goes back down quickly. If not, that is another sign of dehydration. Personally, I would probably be at an emergency clinic if it was my pup. They can go downhill quickly.

| Does he have all of his shots? If not don't take him for walks. It only takes a small amount to dehydrate them. My baby had diarrhea one day maybe 5 or 6 times and they wanted to do IV fluids. Another time she threw up a few times every day for three days and she needed fluids too. They get dehydrated fast even if they are drinking.

| Praying your baby is okay. When they are not eating their regular food well, hold all treats and chews. What kind of chew was it?

| Update Sorry everyone, it's been a busy week. Cerulean is doing just fine. It appears that it was just a stomach bug. I was giving him the boiled hamburger and rice but that made it worse. The nurse said it may be a sensitivity to beef. On Friday I started him on a chicken, pumpkin, yogurt and rice mixture and he's been pooping regularly ever since. A bright colorful orange but I'll take that over what we've been seeing any day. After today's appt he is now on Fortiflora to keep his tummy regulated and has to stay on the homemade mash for another week. Throughout all of this he has been a trooper, only being lethargic that first day. After that he remained the handful we've grown and love. Thanks for all concern and prayers. Cerulean and I appreciate them all. |
