| Sissy is sick Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking what to do. I have done it already. Sissy went to the vet with Bubba on Friday. Bubba got shots and Sissy had her microchip checked. Friday night she threw up-a little bile and mucus but she had beenk running around like a crazy dog so I thought nothing of it. Saturday morning she threw up in bed x2 and didn't want to eat or drink, so I called the vet. I try to use the same one in the practice all the time and she had seen her yesterday and knew she was fine then. Her belly was very tender so they did a full body X-ray and complete blood work. The X-ray showed just gas and the blood work show low potassium (from vomiting) but nothing else. They gave her some subaqueous fluids, Cerenia and Pepsid and allowed me to take her home. Yesterday, she was just lazy and hardly ate but in the evening had a little diarrhea and then again this morning. First thing this morning I called and they got her right in but our normal vet was off. Her belly wasn't as tender and the vet wanted to see if she would eat something, if not he wanted to hospitalize her and give her Flagyl and fluids. Of course she wouldn't eat the food offered (she won't take treats from anyone else so I didn't worry about that). we talked it over and I told him I wanted to take her home. He agreed and gave me the Flagyl. When we got home I offered her her own food which she ate. She hasn't had and loose stools since. The vet said he thinks it is a virus and something is going around as they had another dog in with the same symptoms. So hopefully things are on the upswing. So beware if your little starts throwing up or has loose stools, call your vet right away. Sorry for the long post but I am just starting to breathe again

| Poor Sissy! Very happy to hear she is recovering and that the problem appears to have been just a weird virus. We have been very damp here, conditions ripe for spreading things, so I am paranoid right now. The boys have picked things up in the neighborhood before. Best wishes for Sissy to be 100% soon and to have no more problems.

| Praying for a quick recovery. I believe things can be 'picked up' at the vet's office too.

| Awww poor Sissy. I hope she continues to improve! I'm with kjc ... sometimes I am quite certain my pups have picked up something from the vet's office. They get these weird GI things and one or two have been at the vet in the past day or two. Then, of course, they all share it. Keep us posted, Joan...will say a prayer for Sissy...

| Sissy seems much better this morning. She barked at a squirrel for the first time since saturday morning. She ate dinner last night but only a bite this morning. No more vomiting or diarrhea, but GAS. Needly to say she is not happy about taking 4different meds but as long as it will get her better I will make sure she takes them. Thanks for your concern! It's hard to see them sick or hurting.

| Glad to hear your little girl is doing better! I hold Winnie at the vets office unless she's on the table....and I always ask them to wipe the table down before I will put her down. Sometimes they get a little annoyed....but I don't care. I know it may not always prevent....but I can do my best to try! |

| Auggggghhhh! Late this Morning the vet called. Since she had diarrhea yesterday, when I went there I took a stool sample so he could see it. Well, they tested it and it seems she has coccidia. Both Bubba and Sissy got a dose of Ponazuril. I guess we can count out her having picked something up at the vet since incubation is about two weeks (she was there on Friday and had diarrhea on Sunday night). If I suspect anywhere-it is the dog park, since the weather has been nice they have been there. Sorry guys, no more dog park for you!

| I totally agree! You never know what is lurking around at the dog parks.

| Early Yesterday I took Sissy back to the vet. She had not eaten or drank water all day Wednesday. They admitted her, put in an IV and are giving her LR (lactated ringers fluid) and medication. They had tried to feed her but she refused it so when I went back to see her last night they wanted to try again and finally she did eat. I will see her again this morning and hope things went well during the night.
