| Tails docket today? He's hurting!! Hello everyone!! I am new here but need some info. Please tell me what to do!! I was given a yorkie around 2 months ago. She will be 3 in a few months and just had her first litter of puppies. The owner said she may be pregnant but wasn't sure when we got her. Well she was and 5 days ago she had her pups. I took them today to get their tails docket and one of them is in a lot of pain. He is crying almost constantly. The other three seem ok but just the one is hurting and I feel really bad. Is there anything I can do to help him?? |

| I'm so sorry he is hurting. I would call the vet or ER vet and ask them what you can do to ease his pain. Poor little guy. Hopefully, another member will be along shortly and can help.

| It is pitiful that this poor little soul is suffering like this. Most vets make a surgical procedure out of docking tails, where as breeders know to use hemostats and clamp the tail, apply another set of hemostats right next to the first set, rapidly twist the second hemostat and that end of the tail comes off cleanly, seals the end so there is no bleeding, the end of the tail heals in a more pleasing "point" effect, and most importantly, the only pain that pup feels is when that first hemostat clamps down on that tail. There is no pain and no bleeding afterwards! Your vet has probably put sutures across the cut end of that tail....If I were you, I could not stand to hear that baby cry in pain.....I would take it into the ER and get it looked at by the vet, make sure the nerve end is not left exposed, and get it something for the pain...preferably Lidocaine topical or something like that, since the baby is only 5 days old. |

| This is so sad for the baby. How terrible to be in pain. Please take the little one to the ER. Vets should take a cue from the excellent breeders about the proper way to dock.
