YT Addict | Rough dental for Jenna My poor girl had her yearly dental today. Three teeth pulled although her calculus was not that bad. One tooth the gum had receded so far that they could get an instrument under the arch in the root as it was visible. She has dissolving stitches and as usual her voice is absolutely destroyed from the intubation. She was given a metacam injection and I was told further meds (amox drops and oral metacam-which she may or may not tolerate due to her dodgy tummy) can wait to be started tomorrow and must be taken with a full tummy. Problem is, she can't even take little dribbles of water right now because she starts rolling her tongue around in her mouth and croaking (all the sound she can make right now) and it must hurt because she puts her head down and presses the side of it against my leg for a few minutes, then rolls up for a belly rub and falls asleep again. She's been pretty much passed out all afternoon/evening since getting home about 6 PM AKDT. I only got to talk to the dental tech when I picked her up so will likely put a call into her vet in the morning, but I'm hoping she is doing better by then. Poor thing just seems so uncomfortable. I hate having to do these procedures with her, they take so much out of her. She is on a very strict diet so there is little I can offer her except for her prescribed food made very wet but I don't think she will eat tonight unless she really perks up before bed. Any suggestions to help her recover quicker would be most welcome, thank you.

| Poor baby girl. Sorry, I really don't have any suggestions. I think she will probably feel better by tomorrow when she starts her meds...hopefully she will eat then. Praying for a quick recovery.

YT Addict | Thank you for your well wishes everyone. Jenna was a bit flat this morning but we were up late last night watching her and she finally had some very wet kibble mash at about 2 a.m. She was obviously hungry as she's never snatched it from my hand before. But today she's a bit subdued so I got her to eat another plateful of mash and then gave her the amox drops and metacam prescribed for her. She went out for a walk and a wee and is resting now. But she rubs her face on her blankets from time to time or tucks her head underneath one of her plushies and I know that means she's still uncomfy. She definitely hates the stitches. We'll both be glad when they are gone but I think that takes two weeks for them to dissolve. She just perked up when she smelled the egg sandwich muffin I brought into the room with me to eat while I sit with her so she's interested in food, which is always good. I just wish I could give her some of it! (I won't of course.) I'm mostly glad at this point that the metacam and amox don't seem to be affecting her tummy adversely, she's had so many problems with medications before. And of course she's watching me like a hawk because I left her at the "bad place" yesterday, but though normally she follows me from room to room whenever I move, today not so much and that speaks volumes. She just doesn't want to shift about much at all. She goes for walks well though. She went too far on last night's walk and tired herself out to the point of shaking, poor thing. That's why I was so glad to see her eat. But we're taking it easy for at least the weekend to keep her from exhausting herself. Really do hate dentals.

| This poor little girl - sounds like she's had an awful time of it. That really sounds like a rough intubation she has every time, with her voice destroyed and her throat so sore. Wonder if she has an extra small larynx or a deformity in it or something? Maybe they can use an even smaller tube next time she's anesthetized or go slower on the intubation or something. I'd be sure to discuss it with her next surgeon prior to the case. I pray that every hour she feels better and better. Her throat sounds so raw and sore. Poor baby!

YT Addict | Been two weeks now since her dental and she's pretty much back to herself but for one thing. She now refuses to drink water and insists upon her kibble being soaked until mushy which she used to hate. Now I'm glad she gets more moisture in her food this way as she tends toward being constipated but...shouldn't she still want extra water? I think she's supposed to drink 32 ounces a day and I doubt she's getting that. (She's 8.6 lbs.) Not that she's ever been a big water drinker but I just find this kind of odd and want to be sure it's not due to some problem with her mouth. Anyone else have a dog do this after a dental?

| I find that some dogs just don't drink much water. The fact you are putting water in her food probably is the main reason. As long as she is hydrated, I am sure she is just fine.
