Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What does CT sound like when it first starts? I know we have this thread for video/sounds....but that dog's particular CT sounds more advanced to me. Can anyone describe what CT sounds like, say in the very beginning...when it just might be starting to happen occasionally? Wylie has been making this weird throat sound for a few days now, and I can't figure out why. It's not reverse sneezing. There is no honking sound or anything, and it's not a kennel cough sound. It's more like a bit of a "sucking"/stuck sound or something...like his throat isn't all the way open or something...? Sometimes, the sound is almost like wheezy, a bit. I dunno, it's hard to describe. Could be his allergies irritating his throat I suppose. If it doesn't resolve by Monday, it's off to the vet of course. Anyway, if you have any thoughts feel free to share.

| I can't place the sound you are describing. Have you gotten it on video? So far it dies not sound like CT to me. Sounds more like he needs a heart/lung exam.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I really want to get it on video but of course every time I try...it stops . The "wheezy" type sound is more in his throat, not lungs, but yup...could be lung related too. It just comes and goes randomly.

| Theoretically could be CT, but I'd definitely have it checked.

| While it does not sound like classic CT it could be. My Georgie had CT but was never very symptomatic and when he was it was a dry cough and not the classic honking. I have found that the really severe cases are the ones where you really hear that honking sound (although I was told George's was severe so I don't know). What I find with CT is that the struggle is on inspiration .. they cannot get air in so they are coughing, if that makes sense. It is the way I try to explain the difference between that and reverse sneeze which involves inspiration and expiration. CT is very much like asthma where air cannot get into the lungs. Hope that helps.

| I also would describe it like a dry cough. I hope Wylie's symptoms disappear. I know how worrisome they must be to you.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Thanks Linda and Lisa -- very helpful. I think I'll be taking him in this week bc it's still happening. I caught a video of it, but he only does it once at the 4-second mark...hope you can hear it...it's like a little sucking cough/hack or something...? Wylie Throat Noise - YouTube

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I know...the sucking sound is just so weird. Well, at least now I have a video I can take to the vet instead of just being all "oh my dog is making a weird noise".

| The sucking sound is different to me, but not the dry hack. I wonder if there's congestion due to allergies. John and I both listened and I don't know if it's the iPad or just the sound from videoing it, but we just weren't sure. Ashley's tracheal issues were much less severe than Gracie's were, which she had from the time she was little. Gracie sounded congested, too, at times. I wish I could be more helpful.
