| Pancreatitis and food recall Hey guys, My poor little Chewy is in the hospital because he has pancreatitis. I really think this came from giving him Blue Buffalo dog food. I usually give him dry and wet food mixed which I buy online. They were unable to get the package to me in time, so I went to petsmart and bought a few cans of the Blue Buffalo canned dogfood. Within 2 hours of giving him this he began vomiting. The next day he was still vomiting, which had blood in it, then diarrhea. He statred feeling better that night, then yesterday it started all over again. I took him to the emergency vet. The vet there told me that there have been recalls on some of their foods. Has anyone heard about this?? My other 3 dogs seem to be fine, but Chewy has always had a sensitive stomach. His bloodwork was off the charts. He is not any better today, even though he has not thrown up anymore. I am praying that they can get him to eat today so he can come home. I am so upset about my little man!! |

| Poor Chewy! Praying he recuperates quickly. I searched and could not find any recent recalls for Blue Buffalo. Was Chewy eating their dry food before, or were both the dry and canned food new to him? I do know from reading here and in other forums that some dogs have gastro problems when eating BB.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, I'm so sorry your little one is so sick - poor guy! And poor you, you sound worried sick, as I would be too. I hope his levels come down soon, that he eats, and is able to come home. I have not recently heard of any BB recalls, but that doesn't there haven't been any. I wonder if he was just sensitive to having only the wet, for some reason. Is the fat content much higher in the wet?

| No he has never eaten any of the BB foods. He eats Nutrisource dry dogfood with a little organic wet food or chicken. He is home tonight, but he is verryyy tired and drowsy. They left his little IV in his arm in case he has to come back. They couldnt get him to eat or drink anything and they were hoping he would if he came home. |

Also please when ordering online ask about the code date! I got this canned Hills from the vet Dating to 2016. I called customer service at Chewy.co and asked them what the code date reads on these cans and she says they guarantee code date up to 3 months before expiration. I was shocked ... I said and you think that's good?! No thank you , I will order and run to town to the vet . Good luck with with your little one.... | |

| All 6 of my dogs have been eating BB kibble for several years, mixed with a turkey and rice mixture that I cook. I got lazy and started mixing BB wet food (1 Tbl in the am and 1 Tbl in the pm) with their 2 meals. After 3 days I had two very ill dogs. One yorkie and one poodle. I refer to this as my $1100.00 lesson. Nomore BB canned. Just to rich for my little ones. I am so sorry that your baby became ill and that he will get better quickly. |

| This happened to me with a Wellness canned food years ago. My previously healthy dog had an acute onset of pancreatitis after eating Wellness canned. He was hospitalized. He continued to be fine for five year when it happened again (I did not know the canned food was so high in fat). Since then, he is is at risk for a relapse of pancreatitis and since it can get worse each time, I do not take any chances. He is on a low fat diet for life. He's going to be 14, and thank goodness, he is doing ok still. I hope your baby gets well soon.

| I am so sorry that Chewy is ill. Ironically, we spent yesterday afternoon at the vet with Finn. While on Blue Buffalo "Grillers" canned food (it was on sale when his usual Wellness Core wasn't), he began vomiting and having bloody diarrhea. His bloodwork (beyond the basic tests for parasites, etc.) won't be back until later today, but the vet started with subcutaneous fluids, Cerenia, and metronidazole with instructions about resting his digestive tract in the meantime. We are hoping it's not HGE or pancreatitis. All three of mine have eaten canned Blue Buffalo in the past without notable incident, but the dry did not work for them. Wellness Core kibble is their main food and I suspect now I won't be bargain-hunting for their canned foods. The only other suspect product that we can think of that could have caused Finn's illness is a bully stick purchased at Petsmart. (I usually order them online but this was probably another "it was on sale" situation.) I hope your little man will heal well and quickly from this. I know how hard it is to see your baby suffering.

| My Presley suffered from chronic pancreatitis. He ended up on very bland prescription dog food. Purina EN I believe. When they get stomach upset they can't handle the richness of some dog foods. Also, we he started feeling bad he would not want to eat at all and drank very little water. Make sure Chewy is hydrated. If he is not drinking, make sure you get him some fluids. Presley lived with it on and off for 10 years. He lived to 17 1/2. They can survive this condition. Though it is scary, have faith... They will find the right food for Chewy.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Prayers for little Chewy. I am so sorry he is sick. I took my boys off Blue Buffalo a long time ago. Their stools were squishy and I just did not think if was all that it was advertised to be. I feed Wellness Complete Dry food and they like that. Too bad dog owners have to experience a sick dog before the dog food companies will recognize the dog food is no good. I hope Chewy starts eating soon. |

| Just as a follow-up and to support your suspicion about Blue Buffalo: Finn's bloodwork shows that we are dealing with his pancreas (as opposed to HGE). We will not buy another Blue Buffalo product. Hope Chewy is improving.
