| Cookie is sick.. Hey guys... The past couple of days have been very worrisome for us. This started on Monday when my baby Cookie began to vomit. On Monday alone she threw up 4 times with what looks like hair and some of her dry dog food. But the whole day she wouldn't eat the dry foods that I usually put out for her. By night time, I became very worried when I notice how sluggish she was.. Not answering my calls and just wants to sleep. I even sat right next to her to get her to sleep on my lap but she just totally ignored me which has never happened before. By the next morning, I noticed one more bout of vomit in her bed area.. Yellow vomits. I immediately called the vet to schedule an appointment to bring her in. They asked all the routine questions and told me she would have to stay a couple of hours to get some tests done and some treatments. I returned to the vet to pick up cookie after 3 hours and my vet told me the blood tests resulted in some abnormal figures for sodium, potassium, white blood cells and other stuff. Told me they would send it into the lab for further testing to see if it could be Addison's disease which had similar symptoms. My vet also gave us some canned food which he said Cookie sniffed and ate immediately. I thought Cookie might just have changed from dry foods to liking canned food. He also informed me that I would have to bring Cookie back in to the vet for fluids the very next day as well as get the results of the further testing. I was extremely worried that night. On Wednesday, I brought Cookie back for more fluids and get the results. He told us there was no need to worry as the test came back negative for Addison's. It was a big relief for me. After her second round fluids, we were told to come back the next day for more fluids as Cookie is still very sick and needs more fluids until she gets better. I brought her home and gave her more of those canned food. She had some after I mixed some boiled meat into it. On Thursday morning, I tried to feed her again, but she had refused to eat again. I brought her into the vets office for 3rd round of fluids and told the vet about her refusal to eat, as well as her random coughing and gagging sounds. After her fluids injections, the vet said she is slowly getting better and does not need to be brought back in for further fluids unless she becomes seriously ill again. However, she still refused to eat when we came home.. And she is throwing up again. But since she's not eating, her vomits are just yellow colored liquid stuff.. I don't know what to do anymore. Should I give it another half a day and see how it goes before deciding whether to bring her back to the vet office? |

| I have called the vet to make an appointment for this afternoon. One good thing was that Cookie did not vomit anymore through the night, but she still was not eating the canned food that I have been given from the vet's offices. I'm just crossing my fingers now and hoping for the best. Cookie and I have been with this vet since she was a puppy and she is now 7 years old. I trust this vet immensely. but I will see what he has to say today. |

| Do you know if she ate something especially fatty or anything? I'd be sure my vet ran liver studies and did a CPL Snap test for pancreatitis, plus a Bile Acids test if she's had much of a history of bouts of vomiting, diarrhea and/or lethargy followed by a couple of days of normal behavior. I hope you quickly find out what is going on with your little Cookie and can get her a good diagnosis and treatment plan soon. Changes to a Yorkie's diet can upset the GI system and she may need antibiotics and nausea meds for gastroenteritis, which Yorkies easily get after a bout of vomiting and/or diarrhea. My Jilly never could tolerate any canned food every in her life, no matter the manufacturer or type, nor could she eat anything but dry kibble. My Tibbe gags and hacks when his GI system is upset also so I think that goes with the GI upset. If this vet can't find out what is going on today, if it were my dog, I would quickly get her to an Internist for a credible diagnosis and treatment. This little girl can't go on much longer like this with no answers or real help with her nausea and vomiting. If necessary, take her to a good ER vet hospital where they have more of the latest in diagnostic work-up equipment and are used to treating all types of bouts like this. Take a dirty T-shirt of yours to leave with her as she might have to stay on IV fluids, which she's likely needed since Tuesday.

| We just returned from the vets. Cookie received more fluids today. The vet thinks that Cookie is experiencing false pregnancy since she is not spayed and the fact that she just ended her period might have been a part of it. We just have to keep our eyes open to see if her breast tissues are becoming swollen like she was when she was pregnant. Good thing is that we fed cookie some boiled down rice and meat (congee) and she's slowly eating it. We're told to monitor her for tonight and call the DR straight away if she is vomiting again. Thanks for everyone's well wishes for Cookie! should anything happen again, I will surely keep you guys updated! |

| Golly! I pray that's all it is but am so glad you are prepared to rush her in for care should she start vomiting again. I'd want to be certain all the necessary tests were being done to rule out liver and pancreatic issues if that vomiting returns, just to be certain and if all those haven't yet been done. Is she on Rx for nausea? My Tibbe takes Cerenia 8 mg. when he's nauseated and it helps him so much and he doesn't lose as much fluid w/out vomiting. Did you say you had just changed her food to canned when she got sick or did I misunderstand that? If so, did you gradually add just a bit of the canned to her dry food or give her a dish of it?

| I hope your little girl is getting better.....I know you are worried sick about her and here we are on a dreaded weekend, where most vets close at noon on Saturday....if she is not MUCH better, and if I did not have a diagnosis supported by some kind of evidence by Monday, rather than guesses or suppositions, personally I would be scurrying off to a specialist or the vet school! Praying for your baby girl.....keep us posted! |

| the pancreatic and liver issue were ruled out from the vet from the result when we first went in on Tuesday so I knew it wasn't those. and yes we gave her canned food because the vet said that's what she ate when we first brought her in. But we are only giving her small amounts so it would not upset her stomach as we were advised by the doc. We are definitely keeping our fingers crossed for a peaceful and safe weekend! |

For what it's worth, my Tibbe's liver studies on routine blood work were all within normal limits also, yet he was still vomiting/spitting up yellow bile. But Ellie May/Crystal, a member here who is becoming a vet, told me that a dog could still have MVD or liver shunt with normal blood tests on routine blood work and that I would need to request a Bile Acids Test to know for sure how he was processing his proteins through his liver. I did request the BAT, it was done and came back positive and after further testing, he was diagnosed with MVD and successful treatment started with a hepatic diet. He's been a different dog since he began his new diet 8 mos. ago. I doubt your girl has that problem but just wanted you to know in case it becomes an issue down the road, though hopefully it's simply her hormones taking control, telling her she's pregnant. Poor baby - sure hope she is okay and has a better weekend than her week has been heretofore.
