Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Sailor's Knee I found out today that Sailor probably tore some ligments in her right knee. We notice yesterday that she wasn't put any weight on that leg and got very worried. We knew that she has looses knees and thought it just might be bugging her and gave a Children's Asprin but she never really got any better. She woke up this morning the same way and we decide to go see the vet. He look her over really well and said that it feels like she has strain and probably toren some ligments. He gave us some medicine that will help with the inflamation and told us to watch her for 10 days and if it doesn't get better to bring her back for some X rays. I feel so bad for her, she does still play some, but mostly wants to lay around...I really hope that she gets better soon!!! Has anyone else had any experince with something like this???

| Oh, no! I'm really sorry to hear that. I don't know anything about it, but I'll bet someone will come on here and be able to tell you their experience with it.

| Luxating Patella Hoping someone might have some experience with knee problems. About a month ago we took Sailor to our vet as we saw her knee slipping in and out of place.....he said she has luxating patella most likely due to being born bow legged. Now today we went back - as Kristin mentioned above - because she will not put any pressure on it and he said she tore a ligament(s). Does anyone else have experience with these type of knee problems?? I can tell you that after we gave Sailor the muscle relaxer this afternoon, she is begining to put some weight back on the leg again. The vet said time and rest is the best thing for her........but that is easier said than done....she would rather play than rest!!

| I've had knee problems in the past with my dogs. Often, it's not much different than when a person hurts or pull ligaments in their knee. It hurts and it does take time and rest to get better. I know it's hard to keep a puppy quiet -- but if their knee hurts, this helps keep them a little less active than usual also. And, you can help by not encouraging any play. Give her the pills your vet gave you. These will make her more comfortable. And encourage her to be more quiet. She'll be better soon. ------------ Alternatively - I have had more serious knee problems with my dogs - torn cruciate ligaments (this is extremely painful - and is a more serious longer-lasting problem). Your vet knows the difference between different types of knee injuries - and is treating your dog conservatively right now-- I'm sure he thinks and is hoping that this is all that will need to be done. And, he will check her again in 10 days or so if she isn't better - don't worry! |
